Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Invercargill Harness on Thursday 15 January.
Two very good runs in two runs back from a spell from Abull (3) and with fitness levels at a peak now should be ready to get back into the winners’ circle. Very good at Roxburgh off a tricky draw but maps to get handy here and be hard to hold out.
Selections: 3-7-8-9-2
3. Abull (3) J: Rory McIlwrick 65×23 T: Owen Lawrence & Carol Graham
Beaten by a couple of smart ones in both race day appearances so far, Turn N Burn (2) shouldn’t have any problems like that here. Drawn to dominate from the outset and if in front is going to take a power of beating based off the two seconds to start the career.
Selections: 2-6-1-4-7
2. Turn N Burn (2) J: Craig Ferguson 22 T: Craig Ferguson
A debutant from the Brett Gray stable here, Franco Hefner (7) looks to have all the makings of a horse good enough to win on debut, Has shown plenty of ability and if the manners are there, which is always a risk with maiden trotters, should be winning.
Selections: 7-14-12-8-4
7. Franco Hefner (7) J: Brent Barclay T: Brett Gray
Three really strong seconds in the last three starts from Our Twinkle (1) tell the story. It’s winning time and there won’t be a better chance than today from the inside draw. Should be handy, or in front throughout and everything points toward success.
Selections: 1-8-2-9-4
1. Our Twinkle (1) J: Brent Barclay x3222 T: Brett Gray
A second row draw here for Party Up Denario (10) might be the perfect result. Best runs have often come when driven off the speed and with a little luck early a nice trip off the speed could unleash on them late and give them all plenty to think about at a nice each way price.
Selections: 10-8-7-4-6
10. Party Up Denario (10) J: Brent Barclay 47320 T: Brett Gray
Probably no argument that in terms of ability nothing matches up to Mor Moonlight (11) in this. Dominant display at Ashburton in the Harness 5000 to get success and can really go on with it too. Still not bombproof but with manners the one to beat today.
Selections: 11-5-12-9-10
11. Mor Moonlight (0) J: Kirstin Green 46741 T: Kirstin Green
It’s been a really nice start to the racing career for Anita Mary (3) with some strong efforts in all four starts. The fourth, two back, behind Duchess Of Kent really stands out and if she can produce something similar to that here then she should be the horse to beat.
Selections: 3-2-11-12-13
3. Anita Mary (3) J: Matthew Williamson 2144 T: Brett Gray
Nice race here today for Princess Sadie (1) who has done nothing wrong this campaign. Should jump and run early and look to pile a bit of pressure onto those starting off marks and if she can run the first stages hard and then pinch a couple of quarters, they’ll struggle to peg her back.
Selections: 1-5-6-4-3
1. Princess Sadie (1) J: Matthew Williamson 34142 T: Matthew Williamson
Back in winning form with a big victory at Invercargill, the run should continue here for Duchess Of Kent (7). She’s a quality mare with a good campaign ahead of her and she can kick things off nicely with a strong effort here, even from the wide draw.
Selections: 7-1-10-5-3
7. Duchess Of Kent (7) J: Brent Barclay 12301 T: Lauren Pearson
Manners, manners and more manners, that’s all that is required from Hobbs (11), Bring them here today and he should really be able to round up this field without too much fuss but it all hinges on what happens inside those first few hundred metres. Best horse in the race by a wee way.
Selections: 11-7-2-3-6
11. Hobbs (0) J: Bruce Wallace x4122 T: Bruce Wallace
