Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Cambridge Harness on Friday, 9 January.
With four really strong runs under the belt since resuming from a spell it appears to be time for Father Barry (10) to find his way back into the winners’ circle. Has been great in fields much better than this and as long as he has no traffic issues, he should be winning tonight.
Selections: 10-6-8-3-2
10. Father Barry (0) J: Josh Dickie x3522T: John Dickie
A string of very handy efforts of late from Prince Lincoln (10) who looks to be getting better the more racing he does. Nice opportunity here tonight getting away from the bright lights of Auckland and even from the niggly draw should be going close.
Selections: 10-4-1-9-2
10. Prince Lincoln (10) J: Harrison Orange 99223T: Ray Green & Nathan Delany
The best horse in the race without doubt, Paramount Kiwi (10) is going to take a few runs to get back to his absolute best but into a winnable race tonight he might be ready enough to salute. Powerful trotter when he’s on his game and look out for him if he loops into it.
Selections: 10-8-6-2-4
10. Paramount Kiwi (2) J: Matthew White 67×07T: Matthew White
An eye-catching effort after a little bit of bad luck in running by Blue Chip Lou (4) on New Year’s Eve at Auckland. Found the line really nicely though and is really taking that next step up. Good enough then to suggest that with a nice draw over some key rivals that she can be a major player at a nice each way quote tonight.
Selections: 4-5-2-9-1
4. Blue Chip Lou (4) J: Andre Poutama 19124T: Stephen Doody
We unearthed our next trotting star when Hillbilly Blues (4) delivered in the Gr.1 National Trot. He’s an excitement machine with it all in front of him. No harder here and from a good spot early should be close enough to unleash on them again.
Selections: 4-9-8-7-6
4. Hillbilly Blues (4) J: Tony Herlihy 12111T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
Given the ground he lost and how far back he was in the Auckland Cup, the effort of Merlin (4) was very good. Expect him to bounce through that into this really well and he holds many of the cards to the race. If he can find the front, it’s going to take a mighty effort to run him down.
Selections: 4-3-1-2
4. Merlin (4) J: Zachary Butcher 13316T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
A herculean effort in defeat on New Year’s Eve by Arden’s Memory (6) she’s really furnishing into a very nice mare. Great race for her here tonight as she should be able to lead them and just dominate and be a little too good for her rivals.
Selections: 6-2-7-8-10
6. Arden’s Memory (6) J: Brooke Wilkins 51162T: Nathan Purdon
On debut tonight but with some tidy workout and trial form under the belt, Soundshell (4) should run a big race here. Lands a decent draw and looks set to roll forward and try and find a good position and from there will prove hard to beat.
Selections: 4-9-8-11-2
4. Soundshell (4) J: Logan Hollis T: Logan Hollis & Shane Robertson
Nice trotter back for another campaign and the recent public run by Paradise Ali (5) screamed a big resumption was incoming. Finds a very winnable race first run back too and with good manners will be in the battle for a very long way.
Selections: 5-6-7-3-4
5. Paradise Ali (3) J: Crystal Hackett x687xT: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
