Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Winton Harness on Sunday 14 December.
A big swing in draws today for Van Liberty (1) today and it can make all the difference too. Has been working hard to find the a spot on the pace in previous runs, but should land there naturally today and with a nice trip is more than good enough to win this.
Selections: 1-13-11-2-7
1. Van Liberty (1) J: Carter Dalgety 38206 T: Tony Stratford
First starter King Hit (7) hails from a strike-rate barn that brings them ready to rock and roll and also carries some very strong trial and workout form into this debut. Not just a turn up and win job, but if he runs up to his promise he goes very close.
Selections: 7-5-8-6-4
7. King Hit (7) J: Brent Barclay T: Lauren Pearson
Closely related to some handy types, Father Ned (6) kicks off the career today off the back of some handy public runs in the past month or so. Looks a relatively sensible trotter which is always the concern with debutants and meets a winnable race first up.
Selections: 6-3-2-9-10
6. Father Ned (6) J: Craig Ferguson T: Chelsea Faithful
The ability for Vice Chairwoman (1) is there to win a race without doubt. There’s been good glimpses of it in the short career to date and with the aid of the inside draw here gets a prime opportunity to deliver a victory.
Selections: 1-2-4-6-9
1. Vice Chairwoman (1) J: Brent Barclay 40563 T: Brett Gray
No luck on the trip up to Canterbury to take on the big guns for Mor Moonlight (11) but the experience gained from the venture will be invaluable in the long term. Massive drop back in grade here and if able to trot all the way then looks the horse they all need to beat.
Selections: 11-12-2-6-8
11. Mor Moonlight (0) J: Kirstin Green 12467 T: Kirstin Green
Stonewall Stud pacer Transonic (3) treks south after just two career starts. An impressive maiden win at Ashburton was followed up by a just OK effort up in grade at Addington. This looks well within range though and he should be able to roll to the front and dominate.
Selections: 3-1-9-12-6
3. Transonic (3) J: Tim Williams 10 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Two very impressive trial victories in the past few weeks will have Ebonezy (3) on the radar for many punters today. Strike barn prepares and lands a good draw to work from so likely to try and make the most of it. Can certainly win.
Selections: 3-6-1-8-9
3. Ebonezy (3) J: Carter Dalgety 5x T: Des Baynes
Quality three-year-old filly Tosana (5) lands in here nicely off the back a strong effort last week at Addington in behind Nothing But You. Excellent when winning in the two previous starts to that. Race experience plays right into her hands here and she can win this.
Selections: 5-6-1-3-2
5. Tosana (5) J: Mark Hurrell 00113 T: Darren Keast
Handy mare Seaside Rose (11) comes out of two good performances behind the low-flying Francent in her last two runs and prior to that finished third behind Lakelsa. Massive drop in grade and even from the second row should have the measure of this field.
Selections: 11-10-7-3-8
11. Seaside Rose (11) J: Nikita Burton x4384 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
It’s a dangerous game to play, the one where you’re tipping Jimmy Carter (12). So much relies on which version of him turns up. Best is good enough to win this and he’s sliding down the grades again so the handicaps aren’t so big. Hopefully today he puts it all together.
Selections: 12-3-4-7-11
12. Jimmy Carter (0) J: Matthew Williamson 8p42p T: Phil Williamson
Big free-rolling Bowlem Over (5) might be the surprise packet here. Gets into a pretty even field and he’s got a handy enough draw to make his own luck. Big chance if he’s out and running at the 600m mark that he might just keep running and leave them all chasing.
Selections: 5-6-10-12-7
5. Bowlem Over (5) J: Hayden Douglas 21715 T: Robin Swain
