Timaru Harness Tips & Preview | Wednesday 3 December

Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Timaru Harness on Wednesday 3 December.

Timaru Harness Race 1
7 Gem N Em
Each Way

Let’s start the day with a bit of value. Amateur driver races can always be tricky but Gem N Em (7) is worth more than a second look. She drops out of some much stronger races recently for this including two starts back when fourth behind Troubleshooter at Ashburton. Best saved up for one run and with a cold shot here could be the giant killer.
Selections: 7-6-9-2-5

Timaru Harness Race 2
6 Calmbeforethestorm

It took five starts and a bit of frustration for punters but Calmbeforethestorm (6) finally put it all together and lived up to the trial form with a bold second at Oamaru last week. Hopefully the wee confidence boost can be the turning point for the brother to Tornado Valley to finally start getting it all together. He trots today and he’ll win because there’s not a lot of depth here.

Timaru Harness Race 3
4 Sweet N Sassy
Tip of The Day

A much improved effort at Oamaru in start No.2 compared to the debut run from Sweet N Sassy (4) last week. Led them up a merry chase and was divebombed by two out wide late. Not many, if any, here who will be divebombing and if able to find the front, should deliver and do so in style.
Selections: 4-1-3-5-2

Timaru Harness Race 4
10 Hi Life

On natural ability and high speed, Hi Life (10) should be too good for this field. The problem is that we don’t always see the best of the mare every time she races. Anything close to the third at Rangiora last time out is good enough to win this and tucked away on the fence might be a good thing. Should win but shouldn’t start anything lower than the $2.90 on offer.
Selections: 10-6-1-5-7

Timaru Harness Race 5
1 Fear And Faith

She’s caused more headaches than a work Christmas do so far in her career but the real version of Fear And Faith (1) is much better than a midweek meeting. Placed in the Southland Oaks last season she really should be able to win this at about 70 per cent of her ability. Can’t seem to do any work but tucked away on the markers here she might be able to show her trademark speed.
Selections: 1-2-6-4-3

Timaru Harness Race 6
2 Burt

The interesting runner here is Burt (2). Touted early on as a pretty smart individual, he’s had a few issues that have kept him off the track. Now in the care of Diamond Racing at Woodend Beach he’s finally back at the races and while he gives away fitness to some key rivals, he might not give away ability.
Selections: 2-5-3-7-1

Timaru Harness Race 7
6 Sans Repos

There’s always just enough in the efforts of Sans Repos (6) to keep you interested for another week. Never a lot of luck in running, but has to be driven that way, he can be quite dangerous when the right run unfolds. Strong second at Ashburton last time out and if he repeats that he’s the horse to beat here.
Selections: 6-5-2-1-8

Timaru Harness Race 8
3 Our Evie Rae

The shift from $12 on opening into almost second favourite here early in trading is enough to state that Our Evie Rae (3) is going to run a big race today. Has always had a motor and a recent trial effort when run down by a smart one suggested things were swinging back in her favour. Follow the money.

Timaru Harness Race 9
8 Kusama

It’s a long way from Wyndham to Timaru when you only have the one runner engaged so Craig Ferguson must be thinking Kusama (8) is a pretty strong chance. Steps out of a maiden win on the home track last month and was impressive that day. A step up here, for sure but one that can be handled with natural ability.
