Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Roxburgh Harness on Sunday, January 4.
Too good for a field better than this one last time out, Bettor Way (8) appears to just need some luck from the inside of the second row to play a major role here. Should get that too with the #1 likely to try and hold a forward position. No bad luck and should deliver.
Selections: 8-1-5-4-7

It’s all in the manners but if La Dama (5) brings them here and runs up to the best form then they might be chasing a shadow here. Can do the odd thing wrong from time to time but the motor is big and hopefully we’ll get to see that.
Selections: 5-6-4-3-2
| 5. La Dama (5) J: Blair Orange x2574 T: Tony Stratford |
Not bad on debut, expect Wattlebank Will (Race 3) to take plenty out of the experience. Only a small field to contend with here and should be able to find a forward position early and from there keep them honest throughout. Nice chance to break through.
Selections: 3-5-6-7-2
| 3. Wattlebank Will (3) J: Blair Orange 7 T: Mark Jones |
It took a mighty performance from Jimmy Carter to run down Clotilde Wainwright (5) at Gore and she looks a trotter right in the zone at the moment. Should be able to work her way to the front here and with own terms will be too quick around the tight track.
Selections: 5-4-1-2-6
| 5. Clotilde Wainwright (0) Scratched: | |||
Super effort first up at Gore from Abull (10) and he should take plenty of benefit out of that run. No harder here, in fact probably easier, just a horror swing in draws. Looks capable of mooching around them at some point and controlling things from outside the speed.
Selections: 10-3-5-9-2
| 10. Abull (10) J: Rory McIlwrick 065×2 T: Owen Lawrence & Carol Graham |
One final chance for the very frustrating Fear And Faith (13). Anything near to her best here and she’ll demolish this field, but we just haven’t seen it for a while now which is concerning. This is the weakest field she’s faced and might not have to be at her best to win it.
Selections: 13-4-12-14-7
| 13. Fear And Faith (4) Scratched: | |||
Lovely opportunity here for B B Crunch (5) to finally get a win on the board. Has been very good in and around some nice types in the career and really deserves a winning turn. Early speed should help and in front out of trouble will deliver.
Selections: 5-1-4-7-9
| 5. B B Crunch (5) J: Blair Orange 53252 T: Ken Barron |
A really strong resumption in a quality field on Invercargill Cup day from Ideal Crown (6). She’s been a lovely filly since the very start of her career and with natural improvement don’t be surprised to see her name in the winners’ column come race end.
Selections: 6-7-4-1-3
| 6. Ideal Crown (6) J: Craig Ferguson 335×3 T: Chelsea Faithful |
Excellent first up victory from Clonakilty (9) down at Gore and he can really go one with it from here too. Gets a familiar driver in a juniors race which is always a big help and with a nice run through from the second row should have plenty to say.
Selections: 9-8-7-3-5
| 9. Clonakilty (9) J: Carter Dalgety 22341 T: Brent & Tim White |
If the same Always Dreaming (8) that turned up at Gore and gave them a pacing lesson arrives at Roxburgh then the rest of this field is in trouble. A dominant performance and the further he went the better he looked. Similar tactics again? Same result if so.
Selections: 8-11-5-10-7
| 8. Always Dreaming (1) J: Matthew Williamson 27541 T: Nathan Williamson |
There was a touch of quality around the Harness 5000 win of Mor Moonlight (10) at Ashburton and a suggestion too, that we might only be starting to scratch the surface on what she is capable of. Back to the stand here so needs to bring the manners but with them, will deliver.
Selections: 10-1-3-2-6
| 10. Mor Moonlight (0) Scratched: | |||
Unable to get into it from a wide draw at Gore, Heaven’s Mark (7) ran home OK. Smaller field here suits and if she runs up to her Addington win of three starts ago then there’s no looking back for her here, she should really be winning the last of the day.
Selections: 7-5-1-6-2
| 7. Heaven’s Mark (7) J: John Morrison 20186 T: John Morrison |
