Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Palmerston NorthHarness on Tuesday 9 December.
Two placings, behind two handy types in Tipstar and Iron Heart, since resuming from a spell have S S Guppy (7) well placed to salute on the first trip to Manawatu. No superstar, but an honest performer who brings strong form forward to a wide open maiden field. Shouldbe going close.
Selections: 7-8-6-5-4
7. S S Guppy (7) J: Jacob Dunn 75×32 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
A trip down the island for So Mystifying (7) off the back of a solid build up of form this time in. Ran three seconds in a row before things went awry last time out in a heat of the Junior Drivers’ Champs. Should really atone here because with manners will have the measure of this field.
Selections: 7-8-6-4-3
7. So Mystifying (0) J: Emily Johnson x2227 T: Sean McCaffrey
After backing up two strong seconds here to open the career, Major Moonshine (3) trekked down to Addington and repeated the effort once again with a bold second behind Still B Miki. Only a matter of time before the maiden win comes and it should be either today or Thursday.
Selections: 3-2-6-4-5
3. Major Moonshine (3) J: Emily Johnson 222 T: Allan Shutkowski
A three-time winner on the course and a 24-race winner overall in the career, Santanna Mach (5) returns to Manawatu. Not much luck at Timaru last week after getting the shuffle up but found the line well. In good form and might put them to the sword here and can win.
Selections: 5-9-1-10-6
5. Santanna Mach (5) J: Wilson House 89276 T: Michael House
In a really rich vein of form at the moment and loving life in the north, Melton Mogul (10) can have the final say here today. A few to get around at some point, but the speed looks true and with a nice drag into it at the right time can unleash over the top of them.
Selections: 10-5-2-4-3
10. Melton Mogul (10) J: Andre Poutama 43161 T: Scott Dickson
A frequent flyer in this column based off her ability alone, Forgiveness (8) has let the side down more than just a few times. Not prepared to drop just yet though because if she turns up in the right frame of mind, she can win this without breaking a sweat.
Selections: 8-2-5-7-6
8. Forgiveness (0) J: Harrison Orange 03285 T: Matthew White
He’s been a bit of a silent achiever over the past few months in strong races at Addington but Captain Kobe (8) can step out of the shadows today. Nice step back from the strong races he’s been taking on at Addington and with a bit of luck from the draw should play a major role.
Selections: 8-6-1-10-5
8. Captain Kobe (8) J: Wilson House 49619 T: Michael House
Not a bad pipe-opener at Addington a couple of weeks back from Matai Harry (8) after a bit of a spell. He’s as tough as old boots and the two seconds two and three starts back would win this race every day of the week if repeated. Will have to work at some point, but can do that and out-tough them here.
Selections: 8-3-1-2-5
8. Matai Harry (8) J: Jacob Dunn 54227 T: Michael House
