As the name would suggest, there’s been plenty of Turn N Burn (8) from the Craig Ferguson trained pacer in trials and workouts leading into today’s debut. Looks a pretty sharp horse in the making and on everything we’ve seen and the times run can definitely win on debut.

Just OK at Winton on Sunday, but The Bricklayer (12) is a pretty handy horse. Has done a super job in a short career and with that run under the belt can improve sharply and be good enough to win this wide open pacing affair.

The quality trotter of this line up, Becky’s Girl (5) is a horse with a big future. We’ve seen glimpses of it against some of the best of her age up at Addington and if she is to bring that kind of form here today she looks one of the strongest winning chances of the day.

A really nice return to form last week from Zarlini (9) at Addington. She flew home behind both Eun Sogno and The Queen’s Gambit who are strong hopes in other races today. Draw looks niggly, but might work out OK and with a cold shot will be too fast for them.

Looks to have all the makings of a very nice horse in six months time, but the version of Transonic (12) now is pretty good too. Big win at Winton last week and if he can get rolling at the right time today and get onto the speed then he might just outclass them.

A mistake at Orari put pay to any chances B D Hall (2) had there but the first up run at Oamaru was excellent. A trotter with a bit of potential and if he was to do everything right today then he might just leave them chasing a shadow.

Tried valiantly last week at Addington behind Eun Sogno did The Queens Gambit (11) and back against her own sex her today she’s got a chance to dominate. A wonderful staying filly, she’ll likely work mid-race but up outside the leader turning for home looks ideal for her today.

Back home in her home province after a tough Cup Week, Duchess Of Kent (6) can get back in the winning groove here. She’s a high quality filly with it all in front of her and the small field really suits her high cruising speed. Very hard to beat.

Far from disgraced in the Methven Green Mile, Muscle Mountain (7) can get back into the winning groove here. Off a handicap, but he’s sharp away when he catches it and won’t settle too far off them. From there, his high speed should be able to do the rest.

Back to defend his crown of 12 months ago, there’s an argument to suggest Republican Party (9) is even better than he was then. He’ll need to be though off the 20m handicap but he looks capable of handling this race in a multitude of ways – almost all of which result in him winning.

A classy performance and confidence building one too for Sonofamistery (7) a fortnight ago at Addington. That was an easy kill field though, this is harder but he looks a serious horse. Might have a bit more push button speed than his rivals here and that tips the scales in his favour.

Continued his progression toward bigger and better things with a monster win at Addington two weeks ago and J T Boe (8) should keep the ball rolling here today as well. Big robust pacer who can still do the odd thing wrong but there’s no doubting his motor.
