Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Cambridge Harness on Wednesday, 24 December.
Money has been on each and every time S S Guppy (6) steps out at the races and while a win hasn’t unfolded yet, there’s been potential for it. Finds a pretty winnable race here tonight and even from the wide draw should be right in contention throughout.
Selections: 6-4-9-8-10
6. S S Guppy (6) J: Josh Dickie x323pT: Steve & Amanda Telfer
First up for the new barn at Auckland two weeks ago, Joe Kennedy (6) was climbing all over them late with nowhere to go. Has always been a nice trotter in the making and up in the north gets a chance to really build something, starting tonight.
Selections: 6-4-9-7-8
6. Joe Kennedy (0) J: Carter Dalgety 808×5T: Derek & Neita Balle
A quality filly, who delivered in style last time out, Princess Of Savoy will be a short order favourite to do the same again here too. Not a really strong field, but she should be able to stroll across them and take control of this and not look back.
Selections: 3-7-2-6-1
3. Princess Of Savoy (3) J: Tony Herlihy 8×491T: Brian & Gareth Hughes
A beautifully bred debutant from the Purdon Racing barn, Crippa Max (2) has looked like he’s inherited plenty of the family ability in his public runs. Nice draw to use here on debut and if he was to find the front then they might not look back.
Selections: 2-3-5-6-7
2. Crippa Max (2) J: Andre Poutama T: Mark & Nathan Purdon
A really strong winner here two starts back, not everything went to plan for Grace N Elegance (5) last time and she went to the line a little unlucky. This isn’t that much harder and if she was to land a sweet trip, could have the final say.
Selections: 5-12-15-8-11
5. Grace N Elegance (5) J: Holly Moralde Sands 46317T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
A first starter from the Herlihy barn with some really tidy trial and workout form under the belt, Lavender Haze (5) looks a strong hope here tonight. Meets an even field and while lacking in experience compared to some others does have plenty of natural ability.
Selections: 5-2-6-4-3
5. Lavender Haze (5) J: Alicia Harrison T: Tony Herlihy
Nice set up here for Waltzing With Miki (3). Quite a dour pacer who doesn’t mind doing it tough and trying to outlast his rivals. Good draw over some of the key opposition and should be on the speed and making them chase. Can get a good slice.
Selections: 3-1-12-13-8
3. Waltzing With Miki (3) J: Benjamin Butcher 44625T: Benjamin Butcher
Expect some sharp improvement from the first up run by Paramount Kiwi (11) tonight. That was a very good field too and this looks a little easier so with a run under the belt he can get back on track to reminding everyone how good he is here.
Selections: 11-12-4-7-9
11. Paramount Kiwi (2) J: Matthew White 867×0T: Matthew White
All around the action at the moment, Blazing Louie (8) is close to another win. Racing really well and getting better and better with each start too. A good beginning here and he’s well on the way to being one of the hardest horses to beat.
Selections: 8-10-9-6-3
8. Blazing Louie (0) J: Nicky Chilcott 51713T: Nicky Chilcott
In a field devoid of a real standout, Hill Billie Bundy (8) looks a strong each way chance here. Racing well at the moment and generally brings very good manners to the races too. Can trot away and find a nice spot and be the horse to beat.
Selections: 8-5-9-10-13
8. Hill Billie Bundy (2) J: Peter Ferguson 89142T: Peter & Vaughan Blanchard
Nice wee slide back in grade from taking on some pretty smart ones of late for Tight Lines (5) tonight. Has been doing it largely off tricking barrier draws too. Sets up here to roll forward and be on the pace throughout and should prove hard to beat with his class.
Selections: 5-1-4-13-8
5. Tight Lines (5) J: Tony Herlihy x1458T: Brian & Gareth Hughes
Does nothing wrong each time he comes to the races, I Can Too (3) and while he doesn’t win them in a row, he’s never far away. Slides in here tonight nicely given he has fewer convictions than most of the rivals and he might just get the job done in the last.
Selections: 3-6-13-2-1
3. I Can Too (3) J: Benjamin Butcher 44854T: Benjamin Butcher
