Steady improvement through all three runs since resuming from Invisible (8) and he finds a wee slide down in grade this week too. Slightly negated by the wide barrier draw, but only a small field so won’t be too far off them. A clean crack at them and he’ll be hard to stop.

The trip down to Christchurch might not have gone completely to plan but it did remind everyone that Youneverknow (11) is an open class trotter in the making. Back on home ground this week and while there’s a handicap to contend with his class will take him a long way in the big field.

Purdon Racing product Just Us Two (11) has had plenty of chances to win a race but has yet been able to capitalise on one. That said, there’s been nothing wrong with any of the career runs and it appears to be just a case of time before the win does come. This is the best opportunity so far and even off the tricky draw looks the one to beat tonight.

Promising pacer Cyclone Rebel (5) steps out once again off the back of a strong victory here on the track back at the start of November. He’s one of the better two-year-olds going around in the north and while taking on the older horses here, he’s got the class to overcome that and win this.

Nothing wrong with the effort for fifth in the Grand Duchess at Addington from Hidden Talent (11). She’s building back up nicely and finds a winnable race tonight. Just needs that wee bit of luck at the right moment and she can loop into this and finish over the top of them.

Debuts at Alexandra Park don’t get much more impressive than what was offered up by Francent (11) last week. She sat outside a quality, Gr.1 winning filly, in Arafura and bullied her into submission. Might have to do something similar here, but you’d think she’ll be better for last week’s run.

Not a lot has gone right for Mighty Logan (12) over the past month but his win at Methven last time out showed he’s a horse on the up. High speed but also some quality staying attributes too. He’s coming into this nice and fit and ready to rock and roll and if he can settle in front of Oscar Bonavena then he’ll beat him home.

Often a little underrated, Greased Lightnin (5) has been very good this campaign. A quiet workout here last week before the first race was excellent and he’s trending upwards at the right time. Can really push Captain Sampson if he gets the chance.

Strong efforts down in Canterbury in both the Cup and the Free-For-All from Merlin (5) but he’s back on his turf this week and ready to really put it to his rivals. Class horse of the field at the moment and looks awfully hard to beat if he runs up to his last two starts.

Things looked set to work out perfectly for Princess Of Savoy (5) last week but a mid-race gallop ended the chances. Punters burnt twice in row so far this campaign but in this field tonight, there seems little chance of it happening again as she should just dominate.
