Sandown Hillside is the place to be this Wednesday, with eight races set to unfold in perfect spring weather.
A Good 4 track rating and a 12m rail position should reward front-runners throughout the day.
With a blend of maidens and benchmark contests, expect a few rising stars to make their presence felt.
Time to dive into the form and uncover the top betting plays on the Hillside.
This race at Sandown Hillside could well become a key form reference in weeks to come, with at least half a dozen runners showing genuine promise.
One of the standout prospects is SEA TRADER (7), making his debut after two sharp jump-out victories that hinted at serious ability. Trained by Robbie Griffiths, the colt turned heads with a blistering piece of work two starts back—storming home from the rear to win with authority.
He’s drawn wide, but that’s unlikely to be a major concern given his racing pattern. Expect him to settle midfield or worse, tracking a solid tempo that should set things up nicely for his closing burst.
DREAMS COMES TRUE (5) is racing in a rich vein of form and is looking for her third win in a row.
The Price & Kent Jnr-trained mare was encouraged an excessive amount two starts back over 2100m on the Lakeside track, but it got the required result with the five-year-old charging home to win by a nose.
She backed that up last start over this course and distance when finding the line from the back to win by the narrowest of margins.
She’s rock hard fit and gets the services of Jamie Melham who was aboard last start.
SHINJINA (8) looks to be a filly on the rise, bringing solid form and tactical versatility into this assignment.
She debuted over this course and distance two starts back, showing early speed to lead before being collared late, finishing a close third. That run proved a valuable learning experience, as she returned at Sale to overcome a wide draw and unleash a strong finishing burst, scoring by half a length.
The Moody & Coleman team has kept her fresh with a three-week gap between runs and stuck to the 1000m trip, which appears ideal. Now at peak fitness and drawn to get a soft run under Ethan Brown, she profiles as a genuine winning chance.
SALUTED (8) resumes with strong credentials and a profile that suggests she’s ready to fire fresh.
The Robbie Griffiths-trained filly kicked off her career in style with consecutive wins at Pakenham and The Valley, showing early promise and professionalism. Third-up, she returned to this course and distance and fought on gamely to finish a close second, beaten less than a length.
After a short let-up, she produced a terrific effort seven weeks ago—again over this track and trip—going down narrowly in a head-bobbing finish. She’s since tuned up with three jump outs, the latest showcasing her readiness with a sharp win.
Drawn the inside and likely to settle on speed, Carleen Hefel should be able to give her every chance to notch another victory.
MR VIVACI (8) looks well placed to rebound after a luckless run over this course and distance last start.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding was travelling smoothly mid-straight and appeared ready to launch, but was badly held up with no clear passage, ultimately finishing untested. Prior to that, he’d returned in strong form—narrowly beaten first-up at Cranbourne before scoring second-up over this trip on the Lakeside circuit.
He now draws ideally and gets the services of Jye McNeil, who should be able to give him every chance with a more economical run.
KIRRIBILLI (10) resumes with genuine class credentials and looks well placed to make an impact first-up.
The Moody & Coleman-trained mare made an immediate impression with a debut win before stepping up to Group 3 company in the Quezette Stakes, where she held her own against quality opposition. Her most recent outing was a solid fifth in the Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes, beaten just 2.5 lengths.
Dropping back to this grade and carrying only 57.5kg, she finds a much more suitable assignment. Two recent jump outs suggest she’s forward enough to run boldly fresh.
REALIKA (16) looks ready to peak third-up after an eye-catching return over 1600m at Lakeside.
The Greg Eurell-trained mare resumed from a brief let-up and produced a strong closing effort from well back in the field, finishing just half a length off the winner. That run suggested she’s come back in excellent order, and the step up in trip now looks ideal given how she powered through the line.
She’ll strip fitter for that outing, and with a genuine tempo expected, her pattern of settling in the second half should suit perfectly.
HE’LL RIP (9) brings solid form and a touch of hard luck into this assignment, and looks primed to bounce back.
The Corstens & Larkin-trained gelding was a tough watch last start over 1400m at Lakeside, held up for the entire straight yet still managing to finish just 1.85 lengths off the winner. Prior to that, he’d been competing in stronger Saturday metropolitan company, which gives him a class edge in this field.
He’s now rock-hard fit and gets the services of Ben Allen, fresh off a Group 1 victory aboard Baraqiel. With a cleaner run this time, HE’LL RIP should be right in the finish.
