Doomben Tips & Preview | Saturday 13 September

Doomben Tips & Preview | Saturday 13 September

Doomben takes the spotlight in Brisbane this Saturday, September 13, with a nine-race program full of betting intrigue and spring form indicators.

The rail is out 4.5 metres for the entire circuit, and at time of publishing, the surface is rated a Soft 5—setting the stage for competitive racing.

From lightly raced three-year-olds chasing QTIS riches to seasoned sprinters targeting the Open Handicap, the card offers depth, variety, and a few hidden gems for those willing to dig into the form.

I’ve done the homework, crunched the numbers, and locked in my top Doomben plays for Saturday.

Let’s find a winner or two.

Race 1 – Fillies and Mares No Metro Wins Handicap (1350 METRES)
No. 3 Alectrona

ALECTRONA (3) appears primed to break through this campaign after delivering two strong performances.

Trained by Chris & Corey Munce, the mare hit the line impressively from the rear two starts back, finishing 2.34 lengths second over 1200m at this track.

She backed that up with another eye-catching run over 1400m at Eagle Farm, charging home despite an unfavourable race tempo to finish 2.06 lengths behind Magnatear, with a clear margin to third.

Now at peak fitness and facing a suitable assignment, she looks well positioned to make her mark.

Race 2 – BM70 Handicap (2030 METRES)
No. 2 Misterkipchoge

MISTERKIPCHOGE (2) doesn’t win out of turn, with just two victories and nine placings from 24 starts, but this looks like his best opportunity in some time.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding heads north to Brisbane after tackling much tougher company in Sydney. His latest effort saw him finish strongly from the back to grab third, beaten just 1.2 lengths over 1800m on a heavy Kensington surface.

Four runs ago, he broke through at Rosehill over the same trip with a determined chase, showing he’s capable when conditions suit.

Although winless from four attempts at 2000m, he’s racing like a horse ready to handle the distance—especially against this softer opposition.

Race 3 – QTIS Three-Years-Old Plate (1110 METRES)
No. 6 Foreign Press

FOREIGN PRESS (6) tasted defeat for the first time this preparation last start, but she’s well placed to bounce back.

The Tony Gollan-trained filly broke her maiden three runs ago with a dominant win over 800m at Ipswich, then stepped up in class and impressed with a strong finishing burst to score by a length over 1000m at Eagle Farm.

Last time out, she rose to 1200m and battled bravely despite a slow recovery, going down narrowly by a nose.

Now at peak fitness and likely to enjoy a favourable run just off the speed, she looks ready to return to winning form.

Race 4 – BM70 Handicap (1110 METRES)
No. 14 She’s Exotic

SHE’S EXOTIC (14) boasts an impressive record of four wins from five starts and looks ready to continue her strong form.

The daughter of Pride Of Dubai dominated her first three outings before a brave fourth in a Highway Handicap—her only defeat to date.

After nearly a year off, she resumed in style for new trainer Matt Dunn, scoring by 1.3 lengths over 1100m at Ipswich.

She’ll strip fitter second-up and, with a touch of luck from the wide draw, should be right in the mix again.

Race 5 – Class 6 Plate (1200 METRES)
No. 12 Ouroboros

OUROBOROS (12) was unlucky not to score first-up in a strong Class 3 Plate over 1200m at Doomben, where he led and was only collared late by Spywire.

Trained by Matt Hoysted, the gelding justified solid market support next time out, bouncing back with a dominant all-the-way win over 1200m at Eagle Farm, putting 2.3 lengths on his rivals.

He looked to have plenty left in the locker and should roll forward again for Damien Thornton. With that fitness edge and racing style, he’ll be hard to run down.

Race 6 – Colts, Geldings and Entires No Metro Wins Handicap (1350 METRES)
No. 5 Pannier

PANNIER (5) could not have been more impressive when resuming from a 64-week layoff at Toowoomba last start.

Apprentice Shania Willis settled him quietly near the rear before unleashing in the straight, where he sprinted clear to win by a commanding 9.3 lengths.

With that long break behind him, he’ll take good improvement into this second-up run and should relish the step up in trip, having previously won over a mile.

Drawn to get a soft run for Bailey Wheeler, he looks ready to go back-to-back.

Race 7 – OPEN Handicap (1110 METRES)
No. 9 Hurts So Good
Each Way

HURTS SO GOOD (9) returns to the track for the first time since his sharp win over 1000m at Eagle Farm back in April and looks ready to fire fresh.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding impressed in a recent trial, cruising home behind Rothfire to finish third without being asked for much.

He’s shown a liking for first-up runs, including last prep when he defied 61.5kg and a wide draw to score stylishly over this trip.

With just 54kg and Angela Jones aboard, he’s well placed to stalk a genuine tempo and launch late.

Race 8 – OPEN Handicap (1630 METRES)
No. 1 Ducasse
Tip of The Day

DUCASSE (1) was stiff not to break through when resuming over 1400m at Eagle Farm last start.

The Michael Freedman-trained gelding was forced to settle near the rear after drawing wide, but produced a powerful finishing burst to get within just over half a length of Bullion Boy.

That late surge suggests the step up to a mile is ideal second-up, and he meets Bullion Boy 5kg better at the weights this time around.

With a kinder draw, he’s set to enjoy a much more economical run and looks ready to peak.

Race 9 – BM78 Handicap (1630 METRES)
No. 1 Free Carry

FREE CARRY (3) returned in brilliant fashion two starts back, scoring impressively over 1400m at Eagle Farm.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding had shown plenty in trials and translated that into race day form, powering home to win by 2.35 lengths.

Last start, he found the Good 3 surface too firm and couldn’t let down after leading over this same trip at Eagle Farm.

Third-up now, with two wins from three attempts in this scenario, he maps to control the tempo and gets a handy 1.5kg claim from Emily Lang. Expect a bold showing.
