We will witness a great blend of experience and youth on Day 2. Veterans Madison Keys and Venus Williams will grace the big stage of Arthur Ashe Stadium while the next wave of stars (Andreeva and Mboko) will light up Louis Armstrong Stadium. The latter two, both teenagers have a combined age of 36 years which is almost a decade shy of Venus who recently had her 45h birthday.
Regardless of what happens in the remainder of Madison Keys career, 2025 will go down as the most memorable as it included her maiden Grand Slam title. Unfortunately, she hasn’t done much since her success at the Australian Open and has opened as an overwhelming favourite. Zarazua will fight until the very end which has been a feature of her game throughout her career. Take her last 6 losses as an example with 5 of them going the distance. Despite being 45 years of age, Venus Williams refuses to turn the lights off on her career. She won her first WTA Tour match in almost two years in Washington but has been beaten handily in her last two – dropping serve 11 times in her last 4 sets played. That spells trouble against a proven performer like Muchova who made the semi finals here 12 months ago. Her recent form is not as spectacular but she won 11 consecutive sets before losing to Pegula last year which includes straight sets wins over Osaka, Paolini and Haddad-Maia. The only meetings between them came on this court 5 years ago with Muchova winning 6-3 7-5. She will be more dominant this time around.

Krejcikova may be a two-time major champion but 2025 has been a huge struggle for her. Has three 1st Round losses to her name and has not made it past the quarters in any tournament. Moreover, even her wins have been a battle with her last 7 victories all coming in three sets. In contrast, Mboko has burst onto the scene with the teenager winning the WTA1000 event in Montreal on home soil. Beat three major champions in that tournament (Gauff, Rybakina and Osaka) and will be adding Krejcikova to that list.

Am slightly concerned for Andreeva here as an ankle injury has interrupted her preparation. Her only match since Wimbledon was a straight sets loss to Kessler and she will have to battle Parks and the American crowd in this one. Parks can be inconsistent but she brings great form with her to Flushing Meadows. Played in Monterrey in the week leading into the US Open where she beat Navarro, Bucsa and Sramkova before losing to Shnaider in a tight semi final battle. Really like the Overs!
