US Open 2025: Men’s Day 3 Tips & Preview

The Sunday start means that we have had to wait until Day 3 to see defending champion Jannik Sinner and the world number 1 will not disappoint. Zverev is the other main contender in action but the must watch match of the day is the battle between Bublik and Cilic – the latter being a former winner here in 2014.

Jannik Sinner
vs
Vit Kopriva
4:40am* Wednesday | Arthur Ashe Stadium
Sinner -10.5 ($1.62)

Going to keep this one short and sweet. There was a question mark over Sinner after he retired in the final of the Cincinnati Masters but all reports suggest he has fully recovered and has been playing full practice sets in the days leading into the tournament. If there are any concerns from Sinner he is even more likely to want to dominate this match and limit the time spent on court. Kopriva has struggled in recent matches – mainly behind his 2nd serve which has been taken advantage of by a long list of lower-ranked players such as Galan and Yunchaokete. Sinner will break serve at least twice in each set.

Bet: Sinner -10.5 ($1.62)

Alexander Zverev
vs
Alejandro Tabilo
12:10pm* Wednesday | Arthur Ashe Stadium
Over 30.5 games ($2.00)

Zverev has made the quarter finals or better including a runner-up finish in 2020 in each of his last four US Open appearances. It is no longer about make the second week about the German with the focus being on winning that elusive major title. Crushing losses at the hands of Sinner and Alcaraz have dented his confidence and belief with the light at the end of the tunnel staring to fade. Leaving Nadal out of the conversation, Zverev has handled lefties well throughout his career courtesy of his solid backhand but too often in his career we have seen him pushed in the early stages at the Grand Slams. Expecting at least one of the sets to go to a tiebreaker which makes the Overs the best option.

Bet: Over 30.5 games ($2.00)

Lorenzo Musetti
vs
Giovanni Mpretshi-Perricard
3:00am Wednesday | Louis Armstrong Stadium
Over 39.5 games ($1.80)

Playing a substantial number of matches throughout the clay court swing has taken a toll on Musetti. He compiled an 18-4 record on the red dirt but losses to Alcaraz in Rome and Paris broke him. Has lost 4 his last 5 matches since and will now face the biggest serve in tennis. Mpetshi-Perricard found some form at Winston Salem and the conditions at Flushing Meadows will suit his game. The Italian won both matches between them last year but this is their first meeting on a hard court. There will be very few breaks of serve and multiple breakers. We could see a 5th set breaker!

Bet: Over 39.5 games ($1.80)

Alexander Bublik
vs
Marin Cilic
4:10am* Wednesday | Grandstand
Cilic +3.5 ($1.91)

Strap in folks as every match involving Bublik is a roller coaster. This is a horror draw for him as Cilic is arguably the most dangerous and accomplished unseeded player in the draw. To make maters worse for Bublik, all three prior clashes between the pair have been won by Cilic. Neither has had an ideal preparation with Bublik spending July playing on clay – winning consecutive titles in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel. Meanwhile, Cilic has not played competitively since Wimbledon but will feel at home on the back of his prior success here. They will be playing in the heat of the day which should produce fast conditions – making it more difficult to break serve. Cilic to cover the start.

Bet: Cilic +3.5 ($1.91)
