Paula Badosa was the first casualty in the women’s draw and with another day of extremely hot weather forecast, it will be a case of who handles the conditions best. Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova begins her title defence with the likes of Gauff, Rybakina, Swiatek, Pegula and Andreeva also in action.

The French Open champion returns to the tournament where she made her Grand Slam debut as a 15 year old! Now 21, she has already won two majors and would love to add Wimbledon to that this. Was disappointing in a straight sets loss to Xinyu Wang in Berlin which and it could take her some time to adjust to the surface. Yastremska has previously made the 4th Round here and has compiled an impressive 6-2 record on grass over the last fortnight. Gauff will need to be at her best to get through.
Kvitova may be a two-time Wimbledon champion but it has been more than a decade since she last won the title here. Now 35, it has been 5+ years since she last remained in the draw in the second week of a major and has registered just a single win on tour in 7 matches played. In contrast, Navarro is in career-best form and has made the quarter finals or better in 3 of the last 4 Grand Slams she has contended in. Kvitova does not have enough matches under her belt in recent months to be competitive against a current top 10 player.
Grass is Swiatek’s worst surface by a big margin and we are always looking for value to bet against her but this is not one of those instances. Kudermetova has lost her last 6 matches on tour and we should not confuse her with only sister Veronika who is a former top 10 player. Polina has lost the last 6 competitive sets she has played and failed to win more than two games in four of those sets. Swiatek made the finals in Bad Homburg (lost to Pegula) and that will give her the confidence to put on a dominant display here.
A title-winning run in Bad Homburg last week was exactly what the doctor ordered for Pegula. More importantly, she registered wins over Navarro and Swiatek along the way which will have her well prepared for the early rounds here. Her one and only battle against Cocciaretto came here two years ago with the American completely dominant in a 6-4 6-0 win. The warmer conditions will ensure that the courts are playing fast and that will suit Pegula.
