Whanganui Greyhounds Tips & Preview | Friday 23 May

Trackside commentator Mark Rosanowski provides his tips for all 12 races at the Whanganui Greyhounds meeting on Friday, 23 May, 2025.

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 1
4 Big Time Lopez
Race time:

Big Time Lopez (#4) was going to beat a c1/2 field over this distance before a no-race had to be declared. Won down the straight on Tuesday running a fraction faster than 8 Green Gold who is also capable on the circle but has to overcome the outside alley.
Selections: 4-8-3-7

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 2
6 Cliff Top Manny
Race time:

Cliff Top Manny (#6) beat 4 Goldstar Olivia home when second here last Friday then won easily down the straight. Running out maiden nominations. 3 Sugar Sugar also beat Olivia here but on debut a fortnight ago before pulling up on the straight track. Trialled in 18.13s last Friday which would have her go close in this.
Selections: 6-3-4-5

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 3
2 Brighton Wave
Race time:

Brighton Wave (#2) downgrades & gets a better draw which might be enough in an even field. 3 Big Time Theo should be on the pace & is racing well enough to still be there at the finish in this. Each way. Might need a spread in the quadrella.
Selections: 2-3-8-5

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 4
2 Last Surprise
Race time:

Last Surprise (#2) put in surprisingly poor efforts of late but drops back to c1 & gets the inside draw. That was the recipe for success four starts back. 3 She Who Can has a lousy strike rate but is at generous each way odds based on her last two placings behind form dogs.
Selections: 2-3-6-5

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 5
7 Big Time Bora
Race time:

Big Time Bora (#7) was back to the best Bora a week ago. Prefer her from box 8 these days but if she begins like last Friday it won’t matter.
Selections: 7-8-6-3

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 6
3 Big Time Bam
Race time:

A win has looked close for a while now but Big Time Bam (#3) has been costing himself dearly at the first bend on this course. Smaller field tonight should help.
Selections: 3-2-5-7

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 7
4 Big Time Favour
Race time:

Big Time Favour (#4) ran into trouble at the first bend from a wide draw seven days ago. Runner-up in the NZ Oaks prior. Needs to stay under 7 Big Time Toby who led up in a swift 4.97s last week.
Selections: 4-7-6-5

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 8
3 Bora Bora
Tip of The Day
Race time:

Bora Bora (#3) was rewarded for his solid placings behind the talented Big Time Talea with a win down the straight on Tuesday running a touch faster than 8 Zero Chill on the same day.
Selections: 3-8-4-5

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 9
6 Big Time Brave
Race time:

Big Time Brave (#6) led up in a breathtaking 4.82s to record her fourth consecutive win. Might need something similar to get a winning margin over 2 Fear to Tread which gets a better draw to work with than when they last met.
Selections: 6-2-3-7

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 10
2 Big Time Meghan
Race time:

Big Time Meghan (#2) is up in class from last week’s win. Did well to get into third at Manawatu on Tuesday given she angled into runners early on. 6 Writ Large looked disappointing last time after appearing to be a winner in waiting the start before. Keep safe in the quaddie.
Selections: 2-6-4-3

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 11
7 Big Time Dora
Race time:

Big Time Dora (#7) was on the pace when checked at the first bend. Hard to be confident with her in the twilight of her career but have to have something on top in the night’s toughest contest to tip. The market screams field in the quaddie if you can afford it.
Selections: 7-3-2-4

Whanganui Greyhounds Race 12
4 Big Time June
Each Way
Race time:

Big Time June (#4) is good enough to win this fresh up if she’s in the mood but would have preferred to see some early money for her. 2 Big Time Talea keeps stepping up to the plate but is still more convincing down the straight at this stage.
Selections: 4-2-8-3
