French Open 2025 | Women’s Day 2 Tips & Preview

For defending champion Iga Swiatek, the last 12 months has arguably been the most difficult of her career. She has not won a singles title since winning her 4th French Open and has been on the wrong end of some unexplainable defeats. Lost 6-1 6-1 to Gauff in Madrid but no woman in the draw has played better tennis on these courts than Swiatek. Historically, she barely drops a game let alone a set in the early rounds here and that trend should continue as her only prior meeting against Sramkova finished 6-0 6-2 at the Australian Open earlier this year.

A week out from the start of the French Open, Rybakina had a 2-2 record on clay. Desperate to find some form, she opted to play Strasbourg in the week before the French Open. The tactic seems to have work as she won the title – albeit against second tier opposition with the top contenders all heading to Paris early to prepare. She thundered down a total of 35 aces in 4 matches including 16 in the final against Samsonova. Not willing to give her excessive credit for that title winning run and believe the qualifier (Riera) could cause an upset. Rybakina dropped 8+ games in her last three matches in Strasbourg and a repeat here will see the Overs grab the cash.

Kudermetova continues to ride the way from an unlikely run to the final of the Brisbane International earlier this year. It boosted her ranking and despite never having won a match at Grand Slam level, she is on the verge of cracking into the top 50. Her assignment here is to beat a former French Open champion who had a huge tournament win last month. Ostapenko defeated Swiatek and Sabalenka in the same tournament (Stuttgart). Admittedly, she is one of the most difficult players to back due to her inconsistency/errors but when she is on, there isn’t a player on the planet that can slow her down. Going for some value here with Ostapenko to make a very fast start.

In recent times we have filled our boots by backing against two women in particular – Raducanu and Sakkari. This is only the second French Open appearance for Raducanu with a 2nd round showing in that instance. There has been an improvement in her form on clay but in a recent battle against Gauff, she won a total of only three games. Her best tennis is good enough to make the second week but time and time again she is far too inconsistent. Have Wang winning at least one set.
