Trackside commentator Mark Rosanowski provides his tips for all 12 races at the Whanganui Greyhounds meeting on Friday 1 November, 2024.
Runner-up twice in as many starts. Appropriately in black today. 8 Double Please ran through the line well when winning a 305m qualifying trial last Friday looks the logical threat to the favourite.
Selections: 7-8-4-3
Seems to want to float away from the rail but he might be able to create his own luck in an inexperienced field. 6 Black Malt may be the best hope of those on debut after leading early when second to Double Please (r1) in a qualifying trial.
Selections: 1-6-4-5
Handy placings have suggested that there’s an overdue win coming as he has beaten 8 Big Time Hilary & 1 Streets of Paris in recent outings. 6 Opawa Tara can help him across in the early rush & if she negotiates that well she might be Brick’s biggest threat at OK each way odds.
Selections: 7-6-8-1
Disappointed on Tuesday in that she had room to move early before being tightened but if she runs up to her win in this class the time before then she should be winning. Can’t get too excited about the odds however. 9 Amelia Ate It pushed Kiwi when second two starts back then jostled with that runner & others midweek. Each way. 2 Big Time Battle downgrades into a winnable race.
Selections: 1-9-2-7
Trialled alright here before a bold front-running second at Manukau. Fitter for that & loves this track. 6 Big Time Bullet looks the best quaddie back-up.
Selections: 8-6-3-7
Had his opportunity last Friday but it was a talented youngster that beat him. Can get awkward at the first bend when drawn close in but he should be near the lead. Overdue. Race of many chances.
Selections: 1-3-2-8
Posted his fortieth career win here last week so is a deserved favourite but 7 Boom Dynamite can challenge him after trialling in a similar time & sectionals to the Master prior to the races.
Selections: 3-7-4-2
At wondrous odds on opening given she won so easily in a similar field here two starts back & may have been disadvantaged by the ‘false start’ at Manukau.
Selections: 5-3-2-8
Beaten at even shorter odds last week but he still ran a sharp time & his conqueror Fear To Tread has won brilliantly again since. 7 Big Time Bam got to within two lengths of Tread on Tuesday which was the same margin He’s All Go found himself behind the same runner a week ago.
Selections: 5-7-3-2
Finally got his sprint win on this track here three weeks ago & posted a good time. Swept past 5 Big Time Dixie when second at Manukau although Dixie does have an outstanding record on this track.
Selections: 8-5-6-2
Recent downgrader coming in a touch fresh from a handy trap. Doesn’t race here often so it’s hard to get a line on her but on ability is better than c3. Nearly a field job in the quaddie.
Selections: 2-3-8-1
Incredible veteran went very close when third in a blanket finish last Friday from the same draw. Odds appeal in a race where the favourites look vulnerable. 2 Love Bug never got warm in her downgrade run on Tuesday but she has a much better draw today.
Selections: 4-2-1-3
