Champagne Tonight is a filly by Capitalist on debut for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman. Also a half-sister to Champagne Cuddles, this girl showed plenty of late toe in a recent jumpout at Pakenham, leading the rest of the field up the straight where she kicked clear to win by several lengths. The stable have been picky about where she lines up on debut, but this looks a perfect race for her over 1000m with a dry track expected and Luke Nolen steering.
Exuberance is second-up for Mark Walker after debuting at Geelong a fortnight ago. The filly by Savabeel was one of the runs of the race after blowing the start over slightly shorter, storming home down the outside for third to finish over three lengths off Chewing Gum. That same filly went on to run well at Sandown last week, so the storm stacks up okay for a similar assignment from a much better gate. Providing she jumps on time, Craig Williams should find himself with plenty of horse underneath him over the closing stages.
Acta Non Verba should take improvement into his second start for Danny O’Brien. The colt by Blue Point was beaten five lengths on return here over 1200m a couple of weeks ago, stoking up with a big run approaching the final furlong before a couple of late comers beat him to the line. He had no excuses, but did have to make up some ground from the slightly awkward gate in the early stages.
Zaeemah looks ready for longer in her second start. The Moroney-trained filly gave nice chase to finish midfield on debut over much shorter at Geelong a fortnight ago, shifting off the fence in the run home to finish over four lengths off the winner. She made up good ground after blowing the start and being squeezed early between a pair of runners, so if she finds some clear in transit this time, she should take beating with the right run from Daniel Stackhouse.
Platinum Destroyer is the straight bat play in a tricky race over the mile. Liam Howley’s son of Smart Missile won his maiden over this distance at Echuca earlier in the autumn, beating home a fairly weak field despite the form holding up well since. He overcame a slow start to finish midfield over 1400m here a couple of weeks ago, indicating over his final few strides he might be wanting further.
Red Galaxy resumes for Greg Eurell off a three month break. The four-year-old son of Stratum Star has hardly put a foot wrong in three starts, notably finishing third to last Saturday’s Sandown Stakes runner-up Craig at Flemington. His previous win against a small field to shed the maiden tag was a solid piece of work, stalking the speed into the straight and unleashing with a strong turn of foot.
Furosshi closed the gap nicely on Bay Of Zea first-up at Seymour, settling for second in the end with plenty left to give through the line. Gavin Bedggood’s mare stamped herself as one to follow when winning her maiden over her final few strides at Kyneton earlier in March, going on tackle a tougher race at Caulfield before being sent for a spell.
Inexorable made it look easy winning his maiden by two lengths on return at Bairnsdale earlier in the month. Grahame Begg’s gelding sped out to lead and proved far too good down the straight, holding a good margin all the way home thanks to a perfect steer by Jordan Childs. The pair combine again here from an awkward gate, one that should see them push forward early and look to dictate on their own terms.
