A drama-filled week of action is now behind us, with the final Group 1 of the thoroughbred season in the books, the knockout stages of the Euros getting underway, the T20 World Cup drawing to a close and an intriguing Origin II playing out, which saw a complete reverse of the opener, as NSW levelled the series, winning 38-18 at the MCG. And some punters took full advantage of that high-scoring, entertaining matchup.
The standout win came in the form of a Same Game Multi, as one punter worked their magic to turn $100 into $17,619. The four-leg multi, consisting of Anytime Try Scorer bets on Liam Martin, Dylan Edwards, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Jeremiah Nanai, was banking on the game being high-scoring, and that it was, as the two teams combined for 10 tries in Melbourne. Martin dotted down for the Blues in the 11th minute, ticking off the first leg of the SGM early on, but come half time and NSW’s 34-0 lead, he remained the only one of the four players to have scored. Some of the tension would have eased in the 54th minute, when Nanai scored Queensland’s first try, and as Tabuai-Fidow and Edwards crossed the chalk within the following 10 minutes, a jaw-dropping $17,619 return was secured.
More Origin success was tasted via a Same Game Multi, this time with a $1 bet returning a mouth-watering $4,779. Similar to the aforementioned bet, try scoring markets were prominent in this nine-leg multi, with selections coming from the Anytime Try Scorer, Anytime Try Scorer (1st Half), To Score 2 or More Tries and Match Betting markets. Needing Brian To’o and Latrell Mitchell to score in the first half, the NSW backs duly obliged, and with the result all but certain to go the Blues’ way, Dylan Edwards’ 62nd minute try was the last piece of the puzzle for this SGM, with the fullback trotting over to see this $1 SGM land a monstrous $4,779.
The 2024 T20 World Cup is now in the books, with India winning their second men’s title, and the final proved to be very lucrative for one cricket fan, as they turned $5 into $12,500. Batting first in Barbados, India got off to a shaky start, finding themselves at 34/3 midway through the fifth over, but Virat Kohli was able to add to his legacy, stabilising the Indian innings with 76 runs to steer them to a total of 176. South Africa were equally shaky early on, losing two wickets inside the first three overs. By the time Heinrich Klaasen arrived at the crease, the Proteas had shored up their innings, at 70/3, and the wicketkeeper blasted his way to 52 runs off 27 balls, but it wasn’t enough for SA to win. With this punter picking Kohli as the top run scorer (India and match), Klaasen as SA’s top run scorer, Hardik Pandya as the top bowler and India as the winner of the match, they nailed all five legs to turn $5 into $12,500.
UFC 303 was full of ups-and-downs before the event even got underway, including the withdrawal of mega star Conor McGregor and the unprecedented last-minute addition of Dan Ige to the co-main event after Brian Ortega pulled out. Once the action began in the octagon, the bouts were equally as turbulent, and one TAB punter cashed in to the tune of $12,978 from a $50 multi. With one leg for each fight, other than the co-main, this punter predicted 12 of the night’s 13 winners, including Vinicius Oliveira at odds of $3.05, and as Alex Pereira ended the card with a brutal knock-out of Jiri Procházka, this amazing $12,978 win was set in stone.
Ending this week’s Big Winners was a massive Quaddie that was pulled off at Friday’s Ōtaki thoroughbreds meeting. The last four races on the 10-race card sprung some unexpected winners, including Lovehelen ($16.80) in Race 7 and Weneedashock ($32.40) in Race 9, making this an elusive Quaddie to end the week. This punter was able to nail it, however, and from just a $5 outlay, they ended the working week with a massive $7,517 win to enter the weekend in style. Smokin Mo ($6.20) produced an impressive run on the inside to win from $3.30 favourite Towrope and make this Quaddie a winner.
