The weekend’s thoroughbred best bets from across the Boys Get Paid community.
Ellerslie Race 3: This horse has had four starts for one win and two seconds. The win came back in December in a MDN 1600m which has had two winners come out of it. After a six week lay off, ran 2nd by a neck in the Karapiro Classic with a massive finish from the back alongside Risque Ruler. That finish suggests stepping up to 2100m here is perfect. Barrier 16 a concern but likely to get back anyway, and hopefully the first time left handed doesn’t cause a problem! Our old mate Steely Man’s in this race but Our Time said see ya later to it last time, so let’s not waste any time and take the EW odds of $5 and $2.10.
Ellerslie Race 6: Very good two back winning over 2400 in the QE2. Loves Ellerslie, winning 5 from 8, and is 2 from 2 over the 2400, He had a break and a nice fresh up 5th behind EV to get ready for this. I love this horse and I just can’t let it go around at $8 & $3.
Ōtaki Race 6: This horse has started favourite in all seven of her starts and will again on Saturday. She’s more popular at the tote than your uncle’s half baked political takes on Facebook. This horse can run but she can also lose plates which she has in her last two starts. Now third up and at 1400m, with a good track, hopefully she can keep her shoes on and get the job done. She was a bit soft late at her only start at 1400m so I wouldn’t get too carried away, but with $4.40 on the odds surge, we can have a bet.
Ellerslie Race 8: Nice 3yo who won his first two starts at Te Aroha and Pukekohe despite doing a lot wrong. Good effort to finish third in the Karaka Millions 3yo race behind Damask Rose and Tuxedo with Tuxedo winning the Waikato Guineas easily next start to frank the form. Drop back to 1400m here will suit and from a good draw he will be hard to beat.
Ōtaki Race 7: Not all favours in listed company last time. Gets in nicely at weights and should be ready to strike. $5.50 a fair price in that field.
