The weekend’s thoroughbred best bets from across the Boys Get Paid community.
Matamata Race 5 | Also nominated for Te Rapa on Saturday but no jockey appointed and an unhelpful barrier draw so I assume going here – I think he’d win either race. Just missed Checkmate in the Armacup 3YO 1600m at Ellerslie last start, beating some other good 3YOs. Very good 2nd and 4th before that and should be ready to get a win in a much easier field 4th up. Taken some money and we’re only getting $2.50 but I think he’s that short for a reason.
Trentham Race 7 | He went a huge race last start over 1600 to run second after having a small set back. Stepping back over distance and this race looks perfect for him on his way to the Wellington Cup. He gets a sticky barrier draw in 10, but with the 53kgs and a good EW quote, I’m happy to take a chance. $9.50 & $3.10.
Te Rapa Race 4 | $3.40 on the odds surge. Will be ready to fire third up. Form in behind Shoes, Twain, Sweynesday. Two wins are both left handed. Time to get win #3. Horse on the way up. In we get.
Matamata Race 4 | Certainty beaten on debut after closing off strongly into third, three quarters of a length from the winner over 1400m at Rotorua. Probably would have liked to see him step to 1600m, but it is a month between runs so 1400m again should suit. If he can run closer to the speed on Friday, I think he will be too good for them on his home track.
Trentham Race 1 | Hasn’t had much luck the last two starts. A good gate will ensure a cushy run just behind the pace and can surprise at generous odds.
