Expert Tips on the 2026 Winx Stakes

Stay tuned for our expert tips and Winx Stakes betting predictions ahead of this year’s Group 1 feature at Randwick.

Winx Stakes Tips

Winx Stakes tips on which horse will win the next edition of the event flood in as the countdown to the important Randwick race heats up.

Winx Stakes tips on what horse will win the Winx Stakes this year are highly sought after by smart punters and racing fans every season.

When looking at Winx Stakes race tips it is important to consider factors including:

  • What horses in the Winx Stakes field are proven over the distance?
  • Who the key Winx Stakes trainers and jockeys are and what horses they have in the Winx Stakes field this year?
  • Winx Stakes barrier statistics and where your Winx Stakes betting selections are drawn.
  • Winx Stakes horses that are racing first-up and have a good record fresh.

How long does it take to know if you placed a winning Winx Stakes race tip? The event itself takes just over 1 minute and 20 seconds for competing horses to run the 1,400m trip depending on track conditions.

The official Winx Stakes winner and winning Winx Stakes trifecta are known shortly after unless there is a protest or a photo-finish Winx Stakes result.

What are the best Winx Stakes lead-up races to look at when placing a Winx Stakes bet?

Horses traditionally contest the Winx Stakes first-up for the spring. Looking at the lead-up from the autumn then becomes important with runners out of events like the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) or Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) doing well in the Winx Stakes.

If not racing first-up horses may come via a lead-up run into the Winx Stakes field via Randwick’s Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) in early August.

The last horse to complete the Missile Stakes – Winx Stakes double in the same year was Pinwheel (2012).

Looking interstate, Winx Stakes-bound runners may first contest Flemington’s Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m).

The last horse to complete the Aurie’s Star Handicap – Winx Stakes double in the same year was Tiger Tees (2014).

Sydney-Trained Horses in the Winx Stakes

Betting on the Sydney-trained horses in the field is more and more popular as Winx Stakes tips favour the proven local hopes from Sydney-based stables.

Looking back over the Winx Stakes history and statistics shows that the last Sydney-trained Winx Stakes winner was Via Sistina (2024 & 2025), while Veyron (2013) was the last New Zealand-trained Winx Stakes champion.

Other recent New Zealand-bred Winx Stakes winners that were trained in Australia include Mo’unga (2021), Verry Elleegant (2020), and Tiger Tees (2014).

Winx Stakes Tips for a Trifecta

Winx Stakes tips for a trifecta cover the first three horses to officially go past the finishing post in the Winx Stakes results.

The horse to finish on top of the Winx Stakes trifecta is your Winx Stakes winner, the runner who outstayed all their rivals and finished in the fastest time.

Placing a Winx Stakes trifecta exotic bet on the race is a great way to add to the thrill and potentially be rewarded with a generous pay-out.

A Winx Stakes trifecta is only successful if the three horses in your bet finish in the exact order you predict. Punters may choose instead to box their trifecta bets on the Winx Stakes to cover more finishing options and increase the chances of winning.

Adding the favourite into your Winx Stakes trifecta bet is a top tip as the favourites have an excellent recent strike-rate running top three in the event.

Key Winx Stakes Statistics and Insights

Place an informed bet on this year’s Winx Stakes by considering the following key statistics and insights:

  • Win Rates: Horses with high win rates in similar races are strong contenders for the Winx Stakes. Our Winx Stakes betting tips available at the TAB NZ Punters Lounge provide detailed win rate statistics.
  • Place Percentages: Evaluate horses with consistent place percentages, indicating reliability and competitiveness. Winx Stakes race tips offer comprehensive data on place percentages.
  • Barrier Success Rates: Horses starting from barriers 3 – 7 have historically shown a higher success rate in the Winx Stakes.

Betting on the Winx Stakes often favours the reigning Winx Stakes winner as history shows the weight-for-age conditions make it an ideal event for horses to successfully defend their crown and go back-to-back – or win three times running – without having to be penalised and carry extra weight like they would in a handicap race.

Winx Stakes race betting traditionally focuses on the locally-trained weight-for-age horses with the majority racing first-up for the spring. Via Sistina (2024) was the last first-up Winx Stakes winner when handing trainer Chris Waller his eighth win in the event.

For the best online betting on the Winx Stakes, consider tipping a horse to win both the Winx Stakes and another Group 1 race over the carnival in a spring double!

Winx Stakes betting takes place on the popular Winx Stakes race which is held at Royal Randwick Racecourse on a Saturday in late August annually.

Winx Stakes odds kick off Group 1 betting at the esteemed Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, and the field attracts a host of quality middle-distance horses heading towards bigger and better features over the coming months.

The Group 1 Winx Stakes is one of Australia’s most popular horse races and has been run and won since 1923 when Sunburst became the inaugural champion.

Winx Stakes history shows the event was first known as the Warwick Stakes before being renamed in 2018 to honour four-time Cox Plate winning mare Winx who saluted in this event an incredible three times (2016-18).

The Winx Stakes holds a special place in racing history due to the legendary mare who carried her name to victory in 2018. Winx’s dominance in this race was unparalleled, securing three consecutive victories in 2016, 2017, and 2018. These wins formed part of her astonishing 33-race winning streak, solidifying her status as one of racing’s greatest champions.

Taking place around various Sydney racecourses over a number of distances, the race is now held at Royal Randwick over 1400m and has held Group 1 status since 2018 when Winx made it a three-peat taking out her namesake race in a true highlight in Australian racing history.
