The Group 1 Memsie Stakes runs this Saturday at Caulfield, and we have a Memsie Stakes runner-by-runner analysis available.
The $750,000 feature is one of the best fields we’ve seen, and with Memsie Stakes odds presenting an even field for punters, there is plenty of value to be snapped up.
Our form guide features a runner-by-runner guide, so punters can make an informed bet in the 1400m feature.
You can never completely write off Mr Brightside, especially when he’s double figures. The 9YO has already won a Memsie Stakes and has shown in the past that wet ground is no issue. This is obviously a tougher ask these days, but he can still run a cheeky race.

The punters have clearly latched onto Jimmysstar, with plenty of early support coming his way. There shouldn’t be any mystery about how he’ll be ridden either, as he’s likely to settle towards the back before letting down with a big run home. A wet track shouldn’t stop him from doing that. He looks hard to leave out of Memsie Stakes picks.

It wouldn’t surprise us if Tom Kitten needed this first-up run. He has plenty of quality, but this looks more like a stepping stone towards bigger targets later in the carnival. At $23, he’s probably one to watch rather than one to be jumping into just yet.
3. Tom Kitten (1) J: Mark Zahra 59kg x117x T: Anthony & Sam Freedman
Buckaroo is one of those runners who could sneak into the back end of the placings at a big price, but we’d like to see him have a run first. His main targets are still to come, so he probably won’t be at peak fitness here. At $61, though, he’s not the worst roughie in the race.
4. Buckaroo (10) J: Jye Mcneil 59kg 0x25x T: Chris Waller
There’s a lot to like about Angel Capital, although he can be a frustrating horse to follow at times. His first-up third behind Ninja was a solid effort and probably deserves more credit than it has received. He wasn’t expected to win that day and should strip fitter for it. He’s got enough talent to take this out, and $5 is a price we’re happy to entertain.
5. Angel Capital (5) J: Ben Melham 59kg 326×3 T: Chris Waller
Birdman has attracted a little bit of support at $27 and is worth keeping an eye on. He’s another Waller runner who looks set to have bigger jobs later in the spring, so this may not be the main target. We’d be surprised if he won, but a strong finish late would not shock us.
6. Birdman (4) J: Beau Mertens 59kg 1521x T: Chris Waller
Had Cosmic Crusader drawn a decent gate, he might well have been the clear favourite. Barrier 11 has certainly made things harder, particularly if the track is wet, but there’s no denying this horse has plenty of class. The WA raider is unbeaten at Caulfield and will be looking to keep that record intact.
7. Cosmic Crusader (11) J: William Pike 59kg 12×11 T: Andrea Leek
Sabaj has done enough to earn his place in the field, with five wins from 12 starts giving him a respectable record. The problem is that most of his best form has come in Group 2 and Group 3 races. He’ll need to improve again to win this, but at $41 he can be considered for wider exotics.
8. Sabaj (12) J: Jamie Melham 59kg x244x T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr
Autumn Boy is an interesting runner and one we wouldn’t be keen to leave out. He had a very good 3YO campaign and should be an even better horse at four. The big question is whether he’s ready to fire first-up, but the word from the stable is positive.
9. Autumn Boy (3) J: James McDonald 58.5kg 3212x T: Chris Waller
Beiwacht was scratched from the Winx Stakes last week, and that could turn out to be a smart decision. This looks a more suitable race for him, especially compared with taking on the top mares. He’s a tough horse who should appreciate the setup, and there has been enough support in the market to suggest he deserves respect.
10. Beiwacht (7) J: Nash Rawiller 58.5kg 8261x T: Chris Waller
Planet Red is another runner who could give punters a bit of a surprise, although we have our doubts about whether he’s quite ready for this level. Things didn’t go his way last start, so there was an excuse there. We’d rather see him in an easier race, but connections are having a crack..
11. Planet Red (2) J: Blake Shinn 58.5kg x226x T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr
It’s easy to forget that Treasurethe Moment won this race last year. Her current $9 quote looks a touch generous to us. If she has come back in the same form as her last prep, she’ll be right there in the finish.
12. Treasurethe Moment (6) J: Damian Lane 57kg x313x T: Matt Laurie
