Wingatui hosts an eight-race card on Friday, with the track rated a Heavy10 and the rail out 4.5m. Showers through the week is likely to see the track remain a Heavy10 for the duration of the card.
Mitch Davis has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the eight races at the Wingatui meeting on Friday 2nd October below:
Koyama (#1) finished 7th last start at Phar Lap Raceway over 2200m in Rating 75 company. He drops back in class to a very winnable R65 here, and Tom Wigram takes over, where his 3kg claim looks a big assist. He maps to settle handy to the speed from a nice low gate, and looks suited by the likely Heavy conditions underfoot. Should take some beating back in this grade.
1. Koyama (3) J: Tom Wigram 56.5kg X6857 T: Len & Lacy Stewart
Torchem (#12) resumes here for Ebony Turner, last seen closing off nicely from the back of the field for 2nd at Riverton back in April, after being shuffled back early that day. He comes here without a public trial, which isn’t unusual from this stable, and I expect he’ll be forward for this resuming run regardless. I thought he could well settle closer to the speed from a middle draw this time around. Looks the one to beat off those with exposed form, in a race with plenty of unknowns.
12. Torchem (6) J: Rohan Mudhoo 56kg 2X T: Ebony Turner
Wyndstruck (#1) resumes here for Nikki & Barrie Blatch, last seen finishing 8th in the Southland Guineas back in February. He’s clearly a galloper with his fair share of quirks, but he should be better for that 3yo campaign. He maps to settle back of midfield from the middle draw in a race that looks to have a genuine tempo on paper. Can take some beating back in maiden company.
1. Wyndstruck (6) J: Terry Moseley 58.5kg 7638X T: Nikki & Barrie Blatch
Smiling Eyes (#8) travelled up strongly from off the speed last start at Riccarton, only to be reeled in late by impressive subsequent winner Hakkinen. She maps to settle outside the likely leader Proudtobehere in a race lacking any tempo, and looks well placed down on the minimum carrying 54kg. Should take plenty of beating in this.
8. Smiling Eyes (8) J: Yogesh Atchamah 54kg 45X12 T: Robert Dennis
Santita (#9) comes here off a narrow win last start at Riccarton, sitting off the speed before going on by up the fence. She rises in grade here, but finds herself nicely placed down in the weights carrying just 52kg after Tom Wigram’s claim. She maps to settle back of midfield with cover from a middle draw, and looks suited by the prospect of another Heavy track. Can go on with it.
9. Santita (5) J: Tom Wigram 52kg 54811 T: Robert Dennis
Hammer (#1) sat back in the field last start at Oamaru before unleashing a good sprint late to score on debut. He comes here second-up and should only be better for that debut experience. He maps to settle back in the field from the wide barrier in a race that looks to have a genuine tempo engaged. Should be finishing off hard again late here, and will take some beating with natural improvement.
