Cambridge Synthetic Tips & Preview | Wednesday 29 July

Cambridge Synthetic hosts an eight-race program on Wednesday.

Selections for each of the eight races below:

Cambridge Synthetic Race 1
1 What A Yarn

What A Yarn (#1) comes here off a good last-start win at Ruakaka, where he was able to stave off a late challenge to win that day. Getting back on the polytrack is no knock given his past efforts on this surface, and he maps to settle up on speed again under Grylls in this small field, a big positive given it will likely be slowly run once runners find their positions. Can go back-to-back.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 2
8 Millenium Magic

Millenium Magic (#8) was putting in some good late strides from the back here last start when finishing into 7th first-up. She was six months between runs heading into that assignment and stepping up to 1550m with that effort under her belt looks ideal. She again finds herself right down in the weights after Sienna Brown’s claim and should be competitive in what looks a moderate maiden field.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 3
3 Confectionist
Tip of The Day

Confectionist (#3) is a 3yo Written By filly coming here off a battling effort for 4th last start at Avondale, where she didn’t find anything on a testing Heavy10 track when the sprint went on. She is having her first start on the polytrack here but is locally trained and had also won a trial nicely on this surface ahead of this campaign. Expecting her to take up a handy position in this small field under Michael McNab and should get her chance to run an improved race.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 4
2 Perfect Dividends

Perfect Dividends (#2) heads here off a last-start 3rd at this track over 970m, where he was off the speed and wide with cover but found the line strongly late. He looks ideally placed in this small field carrying just 53kg after the claim, with the engagement of Lhasa compressing the weights of those below her on the minimum. He shouldn’t be standing the leaders too much of a start turning for home and possesses the necessary turn of foot to go on by late.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 5
9 Bettie Davis
Each Way

Bettie Davis (#9) is a locally trained 2yo Embellish filly on debut for Mark Forbes. She was given a very quiet time of things at her sole trial on a Heavy track earlier this month, where she was doing her best work late through the line. She’s drawn wide over the sprint trip here, so may well be allowed to find her feet early off what looks a genuine speed. Could be one swooping over the top late.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 6
1 Seamsew

Seamsew (#1) was eight months between runs when resuming here at this course and distance last start, where he was able to dictate from the front end and was only collared late. He should strip much fitter for that effort and looks suited remaining at 970m. He again maps to lead under Rihaan Goyaram, whose 2kg claim helps offset the big weight. Can take some running down here with natural improvement.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 7
7 Boogaloo

Boogaloo (#7) is a locally trained 3yo Tarzino filly coming here at just her second start for Ralph Manning. She was seen putting in some very good late strides from the back here on debut over 1550m, where she wasn’t beaten far into 5th. She should be improved for the outing and that effort suggested the rise to 2000m would be right up her alley. Can take some beating with natural improvement.

Cambridge Synthetic Race 8
4 El Speedy Man

El Speedy Man (#4) produced a timely mid-race move to win his maiden in emphatic fashion here at this course and distance last start. He maps to again get back in the field from the outside gate, and with not an abundance of speed in this either, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them look to rinse and repeat the winning tactics from last start. Not a strong R65 field and he can go on with it.
