What’s The One Code (#3) ran a vastly improved race last start in lesser company here at this course and distance when able to lead and run his own race in front, finishing a close-up 2nd. He maps to lead this small field on his ear, where Sienna Brown should be able to run this race to suit, particularly with just 52.5kg on his back. If he can dictate as expected and put a gap on some key rivals prior to the turn, he could take plenty of catching here. 

Altiplano (#2) has proven very costly to follow this campaign, finding one better at four of his past five starts despite having plenty of chances. He now has to take on race winners, including a couple who had his measure this campaign, but does meet them better at the weights here as a consequence. The blinkers go on for this, which may sharpen him up further, and he maps to settle back off an even to genuine speed where he shouldn’t be standing the leaders too much of a start. Happy to stick with him at the price. 

Halo’s Fire (#3) resumes here, last sighted finishing 9th in the Gr.1 NZ Derby back in March, and prior to that ran a very respectable race for 5th in the Gr.2 Avondale Guineas. He resumes without a public trial, and while he will likely be better again next start with a run under his belt, this does look a very winnable assignment for his return. Although 1300m is also likely short of his best trip moving forward, he has the tactical speed to take up a forward position from the wide draw if George Rooke desires. Will take some beating if anywhere near his best here. 

Rima Rua Toru (#5) is a locally trained 4yo son of Ardrossan making his debut here for Sam Mynott. His trial efforts have been solid and suggest he could be competitive in a MAAT field of this strength. Should he jump evenly, he maps to get an ideal trailing position behind Alezando throughout, which looks to be the right horse to be following in this. Should get his chance to run a bold race on debut. 

The Perfect One (#3) resumed with a nice effort for 4th here at this course and distance last start, where he got back from a wider draw and was doing his best work late. Although he can be a touch slowly away as a rule, he maps to settle a touch closer from the better draw, where he should be able to position midfield with cover throughout. He should strip fitter for the resuming run heading here and will take plenty of beating with any natural improvement. If the gaps go his way late, they’ll do well to hold him out. 

Proud Capitalist (#6) ran a good race in defeat here at this course and distance last start, not beaten far into 3rd in much stronger company. He maps to obtain a very similar run in transit here, where Tom Wigram should be able to slide across behind the speed shortly after the start. He looks well placed down in the weights carrying just 52.5kg after the claim and would only need to run up to that last-start effort to be near enough winning this. Hard to beat. 

Skymax (#2) has gone to a new level at her past two starts here at this course and distance, winning by a combined 12L across those two starts. Matt Cartwright remaining in the saddle is a positive and I’d expect he will look to be positive early from the wide draw, likely slotting in just off the speed as he has done to a nicety at her past two starts. She simply needs to hold her form from those efforts to be winning again here. Hard to beat. 

Erase (#1) comes here on the quick back-up from a very underwhelming effort at Ruakaka on Saturday where he finished a long last. He must have come through that run well to be heading here on the short turnaround, and he looks to find a much more suitable assignment. He maps to find the front with very little resistance from his wide draw, where Hayley Hassman should be able to dictate as she pleases out in front. If he can recapture the form that saw him winning here four starts back, he should take plenty of beating.
