Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Ashburton Harness on Sunday 31 May.
Plenty to like about the debut effort of Tyron Everest (8) at Timaru last weekend. A wee mistake early, but recovered well and found the line with a lot of purpose. The big Ashburton track should really suit and with manners looks the horse to beat.

Things might be starting to turn in the right direction for Ocean Of Tears (11) again. She’s been pretty handy in her last couple of runs and finds a very winnable race here today. Can stalk through from the second line and look to have the final say. Gets her chance.
Selections: 11-15-14-2-8

Got into a great spot at Timaru last week and looked likely around the last bend but the gaps all closed up on Wanna Play A Game (13) and by the time they opened again, the race was over. Still charged through the line and with a lot more room to play with here today should be very hard to beat.
Selections: 13-9-14-6-4
13. Wanna Play A Game (4) J: Samantha Ottley 43553T: Mark Jones
A couple of super performances at Rangiora from Cherish Me (3) and she really looks a filly of some potential moving forward. Lovely draw to work with here which makes her the horse to beat as she’s likely to get forward and gain an advantage on her main rivals. Looks a good bet.
Selections: 3-6-14-1-2
3. Cherish Me (3) J: Carter Dalgety 211T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
It’s been a strong start to the racing career of Nella Keenan (4) and a win is close at hand. The big filly looks well suited to the wide open spaces of Ashburton and if she can get rolling at the right time and turn the closing stages into a staying contest then expect her to come out on top.
Selections: 4-5-7-1-8
4. Nella Keenan (4) J: Ricky May 22T: Steven Reid
Unlucky not to finish second behind Jumal in the Gr.1 last week at Addington, Stumblin In (3) was charging through the line. Best when driven cold and a small field here allows for that so don’t be surprised to see him steam-roll rivals here late with a cold shot.
Selections: 3-7-4-1-5
3. Stumblin In (3) J: Craig Ferguson 51084T: Regan Todd
The form line tells the story of Clovelly Hill (7) perfectly. Doing everything but win at the moment but gives you the feel that all that is required is just that little bit of racing luck. Has great manners so should get handy to the speed and from there have a great chance.
Selections: 7-11-2-1-13
7. Clovelly Hill (7) J: Tim Williams 22532T: John Howe
Really strong effort first up from a spell down south by Semba (6) and he shouldn’t be allowed to slip under the radar here because he’s a pretty capable pacer on his day. Needs to catch the stand right, but if he can do that then don’t be surprised to see a confident drive, which in turn should net a positive result.
Selections: 6-2-7-5-3
6. Semba (6) J: Tim Williams 194×3T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Beaten in the Uncut Gems, but far from disgraced Sideshow Bruce (2) gets a shot at redemption here. Should buzz forward over the sprint trip and take on control of things and if he gets his own terms then expect him to dash quicker than anything else here and deliver.
Selections: 2-1-7-6-4
2. Sideshow Bruce (2) J: Bob Butt 7×142T: Bob Butt
After a couple of handy enough runs recently, Quicker Than Quick (13) gets into a very winnable race here tonight. Ashburton really suits and if able to get a nice drag into it then will look to unleash on them and out-tough everything else up the long straight.
Selections: 13-4-12-3-16
13. Quicker Than Quick (4) J: Blair Orange 09665T: Graham Court
