Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Addington Harness on Friday 17 April.
For natural brilliance and push button speed, Sacetas (1) probably has this field covered but he can, at times, be his own worst enemy. Gate speed to use and a draw to use it from, the 2600m looks right at his maximum for now but if he can pinch a couple of quarters early then he’ll ramp it up on the way home and deliver.
Selections: 1-5-6-3-4
1. Sacetas (1) J: Thomas Borcoskie 7×120T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
A perfect first up run for Time For Victory (6) at Motukarara a couple of weeks ago. Found the line with real venom and showed that impressive speed that’s there. Steps up into Friday night company this week but would only have to be close enough turning for home to unleash on them.
Selections: 6-8-5-4-7
6. Time For Victory (6) J: Olivia Thornley 036×3T: Michael Ward
Maiden victories don’t get much better than what we saw from Picasso (5) at Wyndham last month. Looks a pretty sharp horse in the making and a trip to Addington is only going to further that. Respect for the stable any time they travel and a second win will come as no surprise.
Selections: 5-3-8-11-1
5. Picasso (5) J: Craig Ferguson 1T: Craig Ferguson
No match for Tour Party here on debut, but then again no one has been yet so just finishing second to him is a good result for Travel Agent (3) will be better for that run too and if he finds the front and can control things here then he’s likely set to be a little too good for them.
Selections: 3-1-5-2-4
3. Travel Agent (3) J: John Dunn 2T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Big and bold winning here last month in impressive fashion and despite stepping up in grade Take The Miki (7) looks hard to beat again. He’s got a huge ceiling if he stays sound and if he can get outside the leader at some stage then he’ll take a power of stopping.
Selections: 7-8-9-4-6
7. Take The Miki (7) J: Ricky May 11301T: Warren Stapleton
Given a couple of weeks off after his impressive Easter Rewards win, Prestigious (8) will look to pick up where he left off here tonight. Exciting trotter in the making and is going to go a fair way. Perhaps a little vulnerable tonight but on class he should have their measure.
Selections: 8-6-1-11-2
8. Prestigious (8) J: Kimberly Butt 51121T: Jonny Cox
A super first up win from Cath (1) suggest she has really stepped it up following her brilliant 2YO campaign. Lobs the ace draw here and should be able to use it to full advantage too. Doesn’t have to lead but with no real pressure coming should get it all her own way and be a little too good.
Selections: 1-2-4-3-6
1. Cath (1) J: Seth Hill 281×1T: Brendon Hill
A herculean effort off a 40m handicap here on Easter Rewards night by One Over Da Line (9) to continue a great campaign. Better off in the handicaps here and with his staying prowess should be able to sit off a good tempo and wind into inside the final lap. Looks a great each way play.
Selections: 9-13-8-5-2
9. One Over Da Line (9) J: Tim Williams 41114T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
A bit to like about the public runs of Captain Shorty (2) who looks a quick winner. Finds a small but talented maiden field here so will need to be good, but looks to be and if he can find the right kind of trip he’ll be getting home strongly.
Selections: 2-1-6-5-3
2. Captain Shorty (2) J: John Dunn T: Philip Vermeulen
Beaten home by a couple of smart ones in the Easter Rewards finals, but Prosperity (5) was far from disgraced in defeat. Redemption should come here. Has the right draw to use to push forward and control things again and with his own terms, he’ll be hard to peg back.
Selections: 5-3-11-8-9
5. Prosperity (5) J: Robbie Close 31113T: Matt Purvis
