New Zealand have reached their second T20 World Cup final following a dominant performance against South Africa. After restricting South Africa to 169/8, Finn Allen blasted the fastest century in T20 World Cup history, and with strong support from Tim Seifert, lead his side to a comfortable 9 wicket victory.
If they are to claim their maiden limited overs World Cup, they must overcome the tough task of beating India in India. It was India’s batsmen who impressed in their semi final, setting England a mammoth target of 254. Jacob Bethell’s 105 runs were in vain as England’s tally fell seven runs short.
Could this be it? With such a well-balanced squad who has such talent with both bat and ball, can New Zealand finally win a limited overs Cricket World Cup?
Our first tip is surrounding the man of the moment, Finn Allen. After his absurd innings in the semi final, what he could do in this one makes me feel he will be the marquee player in the game. For New Zealand, I am not sure that needs to be another 100 off 33 balls, but rather just him spending some time in the middle. If he is able to do that, seeing him sail a couple of balls over the boundary rope makes a lot of sense based on his form.
For our second and final tip, New Zealand to win at $2.90 seems like value you can’t pass up. As we have seen, there is a group of players who, as individuals, can all be match winners. There is also something about recent New Zealand cricketing history that shows we often punch above our weight. For India, they have seen that play out on multiple occasions, as in both the ODI World Cup semi final and the World Test Championship, New Zealand got the better of them.
I understand everything is in India’s favour. They are at home and coming off scoring 254. But there is just something about New Zealand cricket when it comes to taking on the giants of the sport, and I like the chances at that value.
