Smart qualifying trial win over 305m here three weeks back. Expected to run a solid 520m on debut. 4 Cephalopod won his 375m qualifying trial at Cambridge well a fortnight ago. Could be a fine form race.
Selections: 7-4-6-8
Overcame 4 Bigtime Almighty to break maiden status on Tuesday & on the race-to-race improvement he’s been showing a bonus victory in the grade looks on.
Selections: 2-4-8-5
Slow starts continue to hinder his winning chances but he still looks the one in this field. Risky but he’s overdue to get it right. 8 Big Time Splash looks to be progressing well in this campaign. Has won two 520m races on this track.
Selections: 5-8-4-7
Bold third behind two very good gallopers on premier night. Likes to rail which cost him when he drew box 8 but he might get away with it today.
Selections: 7-2-4-5
Took advantage of the ace alley to win the female feature. No duffer from the middle so staying on board despite the swing in the draws for her sister 1 Space Conspiracy. 4 Big Time Thrill won the male version a little slower overall but his opening sectional was on a par.
Selections: 5-1-4-3
Hard to know where her confidence levels are after another rough run at Manawatu but the return to this track should help & the dogs either side of her should her in the early rush.
Selections: 4-3-8-5
Had every chance to win on premier night but kudos to the Canterbury visitor that nabbed her late. Reliable beginner. 5 Big Time Favour was bumped three times before the bend last week but battled well after. Don’t drop.
Selections: 3-5-4-1
Returns to the scene of her two wins to date. Can leave the traps well & capable of holding this field although 3 Big Time Redeem is the obvious threat & had a genuine excuse on Tuesday. Looks a good quinella.
Selections: 4-3-6-2
Clinched his sixth group one title when winning the Wanganui Cup. Should make it 25 from 30 today.
Selections: 5-6-4-8
Was very good in defeat last Friday. Repeat of that performance probably gains her an overdue win. 2 Big Time Razor will appreciate the better draw tonight. Got sandwiched in box 5 last Friday. 5 Big Time Kenzie wasn’t far from some quality sprinters. Quaddie prospect.
Selections: 8-2-5-4
Nightmare continued when knocked out of a handy spot last Friday. Downgrades & gets a much better draw. 6 Star Boy Express was unlucky last start at Manawatu but was hoping for a straight c2 rather than a c2/3 that is heavily weighted against him. Good enough on his night though.
Selections: 2-6-7-1
Has slid all the way back to c2. Recent misses were at Manawatu where she seems to struggle up the straight these days. Should find a quick win in this grade.
Selections: 9-4-2-3
