Sandown Tips & Preview | Wednesday 4 September

Sandown Tips & Preview | Wednesday 4 September

Nine races will be run and won on the Sandown Hillside this Wednesday.

With strong winds forcing the abandonment of the final three events last week, an extra race has been added to this Wednesdays program.

The rail will be out 7m and the track is currently rated a good 4.

Rebecca Hill details her best bets for every race below.

Sandown Race 1
No. 4 Giddy Up Warrior

Giddy Up Warrior has had the two starts and has performed well on both occasions.

Making his debut over 1100m, the son of Saxon Warrior got back and was doing his best work late.

He showed good improvement last start out to 1400m here on the Lakeside, charging through in restricted room to just get nosed out on the post.

An improving type he looks well suited here out to 1500m and has drawn to get the gun run under Mark Zahra, who goes onboard for team Hayes.

Sandown Race 2
No. 1 Kalkallo
Tip of The Day

Kalkallo kicked off his career in style, recording a very comfortable victory here on the Lakeside.

Pressed forward off the wide gate to take up a position outside the leader, he travelled nicely and when given his cue with the persuader 300m out, showed a strong kick to pull and score by over two lengths.

The Ciaron Maher trained gelding looked to have plenty in hand as he crossed the line with his ears pricked and with natural improvement he’ll be right in this.

Sandown Race 3
No. 5 Captain Electric

Captain Electric has been racing well and looks nicely placed here dropping back in grade.

He proved superior against his own age group over 2400m at Caulfield three runs back before dropping back in trip at his following outing where he powered home late to claim second, beaten less than half a length.

He was solid last start back out the mile and a half and should find this a touch easier.

Damian Lane partnered him to victory last time and he goes back in the saddle.

Sandown Race 4
No. 6 Amoursirra

Amoursirra hasn’t had much luck in either of her runs this campaign.

Only lightly raced having had the four starts, the daughter of I Am Invincible showed good ability when saluting on debut.

She then stepped straight up to stakes level but pulled up lame after contesting the Kevin Hayes Stakes and was subsequently sent to the paddock.

Resuming over 1100m at Caulfield, she was taken back off the wide gate and only found clear air 200m and found the line well.

It was a similar story again last start on the Lakeside.

The rise to 1300m looks ideal and she’ll appreciate getting out onto a bigger track.

Barrier seven will see her given plenty of room under Blake Shinn, who will do the steering for the Price / Kent team.

Sandown Race 5
No. 3 Pharari

Pharari returns off a short break.

A narrow runner up at her first two outings this time last year, the speedy mare returned in fine form to record dominant back to back wins.

She broke her maiden with an eight length romp over 1000m at Cranbourne and was equally as impressive out to 1100m at Ballarat at her following outing.

Given a let up after failing to figure in the Listed Creswick Stakes, she comes here off a very stylish trial win against quality opposition and looks ready to go.

Back to BM70 grade looks ideal and with her natural speed she should be able to overcome the wide gate without spending too much early.

Sandown Race 6
No. 11 Boardrider

Boardrider comes straight out of maiden grade but there was a lot to like about his debut win.

From a wide gate he was caught out on a limb for much of the event but still let down strongly in the straight to win comfortably.

The official margin was 2.75 lengths and whilst there may not have been a lot of depth to the race, he was very new and will have taken plenty of improvement from the experience.

A son of Preferment, he’ll relish the rise to 1400m and is sure to enjoy a cosy run from gate four under Jamie Kah.

Sandown Race 7
No. 14 Matawai

Matawai kicked off her campaign with a determined win over 1400m on the Lakeside and she will have taken good improvement from the outing.

Only lightly raced, the former Kiwi has shown good ability in her handful of starts and looks to have plenty of upside.

The way she worked to the line last start suggests the rise in trip will suit and from gate six she’s sure to be afforded every chance under Blake Shinn, who stays it the saddle for the Price / Kent team.

Sandown Race 8
No. 16 Eye Of The Eagle
Each Way

Eye of The Eagle resumes.

The gelding just had the two runs last campaign where he was solid on both occasions dispute not having the best of luck.

His previous preparation he was racing well against good company and but again didn’t have things go his way.

He does race particularly well fresh and has performed very well in all four of his runs here.

He’s looked sharp in two recent trials and if with clear running he’ll be hitting the line strongly.

Jamie Mott knows him well and the addition of a lugging bit should see him race more tractably.

Sandown Race 9
No. 14 Big Me

Big Me hasn’t been far away in two Australian starts and looks ready to peak.

The six year old just had the two runs in Hong Kong back in 2022 and despite having along time away from the track, he’s returned in top order.

Kicking off down the Flemington straight he found the front 100m out but just looked to peak on his run late.

Last start around the Valley he again hit the lead 100m out but was only just nosed out on the line.

He strips fitter and drops back to midweek company.

Blake Shinn goes onboard for Nick Ryan and if he can slot in and find cover early, he’ll be strong late. .
