Over 1100m at Caulfield, got a long way back and whilst he never looked a winning chance, he certainly should have finished closer but had no room to move over the final part.
He drops backs sharply in grade and has recorded all five of his wins over this journey.
Prepared at Horsham by Paul Preusker, the Palentino gelding should find this easier than what he’s been contesting and he gets in well with the 2kg claim for Alana Livsey.
Whine For Wine makes her debut.
A daughter of Street Boss, the filly has just had the one public jump out where she looked to do everything right and worked to the line nicely.
Although it was anything spectacular, she travelled sweetly in a three wide position and when clicked up in the straight she continued to find.
She looks well placed here and from the low she’s sure to receive every chance under Jason Holder.
Platinum Wolf strips fitter for the two runs back and looks ready to peak up to the mile.
He resumed off a long break with a solid effort over 1200m and straight up to 1550m last time, he was always wide and stuck on gamely for third.
The Puissance de Lune gelding has put together a very tidy record and was beaten less than a length in the grey’s race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day before heading to the paddock.
He’s come back in top order and with the slight drop in the weights, he’ll be hard to beat.
Smiling Assassin comes off a determined last start win over 2250m on the Parks track.
At eight years of age, he’s racing in terrific form having recorded two wins and two placings at his past five outings.
He was very strong to the line last start so the step back out to 2500m looks ideal and he presents hard fit.
Kayla Crowther partnered him to victory last time, she stays in the saddle and barrier six should see him slot in and enjoy a cosy run throughout.
Surprise Coming resumed off a good break with a very encouraging performance at Murray Bridge before proving too strong in a three year old plate there last start.
The form out of that race has since been franked with the runner up Lingani, going on to take out the Listed Lightning Stakes here last month.
The son of Impending has put has worked his grades nicely and has performed well against quality opposition.
He showed his class last campaign, finishing second in the Listed Exford Plate behind subsequent Caulfield Guineas winner Griff.
Given a short break he does race well fresh, he gets in nicely with just 55.5kgs and from barrier two, he’s set to enjoy a cosy run.
Morryl Moral has been the runner up in all three appearances this campaign and looks ideally placed here out to 1800m.
Prepared by Ciaron Maher, the Lope De Vega gelding charged home from the back to be beaten only a nose over 1400m on the Ballarat synthetic two runs back.
Last start out to the mile, he was gallant in defeat on the Sandown Lakeside.
Caught wide early, he pressed forward and was only just collared over the final stages.
He presents here at peak fitness and whilst he’s yet to step out over this trip, his recent runs suggest he’ll relish it.
Angry Skies is racing well and comes off a deserved last start win.
He was a touch unlucky at Moonee Valley two runs back when held up approaching the home turn but finished off strongly into fourth.
There where anxious moments for connections again last time, when over 1500m on the Ballarat synthetic he was held up for the majority of the straight but charged through late to get his nose down right on the line.
Prepared by team Hayes, the Toronado gelding has won here previously and looks ideally placed back up to the mile.
Jason Holder will do the steering and from barrier six he’s sure to be afforded every chance.
On The Scent caught the eye when resuming over 1250m a fortnight ago.
After settling back in the field he powered home late to grab second, beaten only half a length.
The son of Foxwedge continued to improve last campaign, making the jump from maiden grade to class one company with ease.
He will have taken plenty of improvement from that first up run and will appreciate the rise in trip.
Maggie Collett stays aboard, she’ll take 2kgs off and will afford him every chance from the soft draw.
Sir Sway returns to the races.
The Sir Prancelot gelding was in terrific form last campaign and made it back to back victories before tackling the Group 2 Tobin Stakes, where he just felt the pinch late after over racing in the early stages.
He showed plenty of promise in his initial campaign, with four wins from just seven starts, including the Listed Redelva Stakes
He did win on debut so we know he can perform fresh and he gets in nicely here with the 3kg claim for Taylor Johnstone.
