Doomben Tips & Preview | Saturday 27 July

Nine races will be contested at Doomben this Saturday.

The rail will be out 2.5m and the track is currently rated a soft 5.

With fine weather forecast for the coming days it’s likely we’ll see the track upgraded to a good 4.

Our thoughts for all nine events can be found below.

Doomben Race 1
No. 4 Bella Khadijah

Bella Khadijah has performed very well in two runs for the new stable and was doing her best work late last start over this course and distance.

Off the outside gate she was taken back to last and had the job ahead as they turned into the straight.

Given her cue, the Pierata filly let down strongly to get within 1.5 lengths of the winner.

From gate two she’s set to receive the run of the race under Jag Guthmann-Chester, who goes back in the saddle for Peter Robl

Doomben Race 2
No. 8 Madame Odette
Tip of The Day

Madame Odette has been the runner up at her past two outings and she was unlucky not to have won last start.

Held up in the early part of the straight, she charged through late to get within a head of the eventual winner.

That was a Benchmark 85, she drops back sharply in grade and will find this easier that what she’s been contesting.

She boasts a great record over the mile and gets the services of James Orman, who will do the steering for premier trainer Tony Gollan.

Doomben Race 3
No. 7 Set To Shine

Set To Shine comes here full of confidence after a determined last start victory.

The I Am Invincible filly found herself in front a long way from home and dug deep to hold off the challenger, with the pair putting up a big margin back to the rest.

Only lightly raced having had the nice starts, she still does a few things wrong but looks an improving type.

She does race particularly well here and the slight rise to 1350m looks ideal.

Angela Jones knows her well, she stays in the saddle and barrier three will see her afforded every chance.

Doomben Race 4
No. 17 Chateaux Park

Chateaux Park makes the journey from Sydney.

The seven year old son of Ocean Park hasn’t had the best of luck at his past couple of outings but he’s certainly capable and he presents here hard fit.

Two runs back over 1850m he found himself a long of them and worked home well.

Last time, over 2250m he was held up in the early part of the straight and with buffeting over the final part he just lost him momentum but still stuck on nicely.

He looks to have found a suitable race, he gets in nicely with 56kgs and the good draw will see him enjoy a cosy run

.

Doomben Race 5
No. 2 Deepour

Deepour has been plagued by wide draws this campaign and connections will be pleased to see how he’s fared here.

The Exosphere gelding kicked off his preparation in the Lightning Handicap where he was last upon turning into the straight but he finished off nicely over the final part.

His next two appearances have also seen him race wide throughout, getting a long way back in full fields and it’s a big task, especially in those calibre of races.

He steps out to 1350m, which should suit and in a small field and back in class, there’s a lot to like about him here.

Jimmy Orman has been successful aboard the gelding previously and goes on back for Adam Campton.

Doomben Race 6
No. 6 Caboche

Caboche just peaked on his run when resuming in heavy conditions at Rosehill last month.

The Vadamos gelding then stepped out over 1800m at Randwick and hit the strongly after being held up in the early part of the straight.

He looks ready to peak at his third run back and the rise to 2000m looks ideal.

A decisive winner here over this trip back in February, he looks well placed to repeat that performance.

Jimmy Orman takes the mount for Chris Waller and is sure to afford him every chance from the good gate.

Doomben Race 7
No. 1 Invincible Shield

Invincible Shield has taken all before him since arriving in Queensland.

A son of I Am Invincible, the colt had only had the three starts in Victoria and whilst he showed good ability he was unable to finish in the placings.

He kicked off his preparation with a dominant win over 1200m here and reproduced that effort two weeks later.

Given a month between runs he dropped back to 1100m and again proved superior, recording an all the way win.

He has run slick time doing it easily and with the low draw here, he looks the one to beat again.

Doomben Race 8
No. 15 Real Rush

Real Rush returns to the races.

The Real Steel filly has just had the two races starts and looks highly talented.

She didn’t have the best of luck when making her debut here back in February, trapped wide without cover throughout she still stuck on strongly to hold third.

At her second outing she took up the running over 1200m at Beaudesert and never looked in doubt, booting away at the top of the straight to post a 6.8 length margin on the line.

She comes here off two very pleasing trials and will carry the featherweight of 51kg with the claim for Emily Lang.

Doomben Race 9
No. 1 Beaux Rumble
Each Way

Beaux Rumble strips fitter for the two runs back and will appreciate getting back on a fairer surface.

The striking son of Maurice just felt the pinch late after leading at his first up outing and in the heavy conditions last time, just looked to peak on his run 100m out.

He has won third up previously and does race particularly well over this course and distance.

From the inside draw he’s set to receive all the favours under Michael Rodd, who sticks with him.
