Commentator Mark Rosanowski provides his selections for every race at the Whanganui Greyhounds meeting on Friday 31 May, 2024.
Black book second here last week behind a dog that has won again since. Was run up the track by a scouter at Manawatu on Tuesday but she was still good to the lure.
Selections: 3-6-7-8
Was hampered in the back straight & then again in the home straight when third last Friday. Should be on the pace in this race. 3 Opawa Turbo is a slow trapper that wants the rail & has a big finish on him.
Selections: 2-3-7-6
Easy winner at Manawatu when dropping back to a sprint. Isn’t the quickest into stride but should muster too much pace for this field.
Selections: 4-6-2-3
Followed a tidy third here with a solid second behind a handy hound at Manukau. Should deliver from the ace.
Selections: 1-3-7-9
Only a fair fourth here last week but is the only c5 racing c4s tonight. 2 Big Time Chipper returns to her favourite track on the back of a win at Manukau. 3 Big Time Morant has been good finishing third from midfield positions across the last fortnight. Needed in the quadrella.
Selections: 1-2-3-7
Fast winner here two starts back then was hampered for a long way when second at Cambridge. Should be rushing ahead again tonight.
Selections: 2-5-3-1
Slow trapper that rails well. Won here two starts back beating a subsequent winner & there was a lot to like about his third at Manukau. Small field suits. 7 Big Time Jonas was a terrific third behind two of the best at Cambridge when fresh.
Selections: 2-7-1-5
Fast trapper drops back to a distance that should ideally suit him. Multi must.
Selections: 5-7-1-3
Closing in on the NZ Stakes record. Was tightened then crowded when trying to wrestle the lead at Manukau. Still has the ability to dominate this race although the small field could make her vulnerable especially to a dog like 4 Brockie’s Luck who was good late last week.
Selections: 1-4-7-8
Dropping back to a sprint which looks suitable on what she’s shown us so far. 5 Run Away Blue came from a clear last to challenge the leaders on the home bend when she was tripped & nearly fell. Must include.
Selections: 7-5-1-6
Won here four starts back & hasn’t had the cleanest of runs elsewhere since. Each way in an open leg of the quaddie. Spread required.
Selections: 4-2-1-3
Only fair when fifth after an awkward start last Friday. Strong record here but it’s win or bust stuff & she can run tidy times. 9 Cliff Top Banger ran easily a personal best time when winning on the downgrade. Worth including at tempting odds. 7 Big Time Vanilla beat Tricky home last week. Quaddie cover.
Selections: 3-9-7-2
