Colonial Country Club has been hosting this tournament since the 1940s and is revered as one of the great classic courses, tree-lined and tough. Accuracy from the tee is helpful with distance negated by the tightness of the course. Strong ball striking, quality putting and touch around the greens are key.

Taking around $4 is never fun in a golf tournament but it is impossible to overlook World No.1 and local hero Scottie Scheffler, who last week found himself in prison and warming up in a jail cell before coming out in a major and shooting five-under. He started only marginally longer odds in the PGA Championship than he does against this field, which is much weaker. His profile is about as perfect as one could hope for. The hometown hero with a great narrative who has won two Masters when Augusta is the top correlation course. He leads the Tour in six of the key categories including Putting Average, Ball Striking, Bogey Avoidance and Par 4 Scoring.He is Top 10 in three more. Should be winning.
Denny Mccarthy
McCarthy is an outstanding putter and is the best in the field on bent greens. He is yet to breakthrough on Tour but has come very close and this is a course that will suit though a best of T-27 in five starts here is a slight concern. He ranks 4th in Strokes Gained: Putting, 4th in Scrambling, 5th in Putting Average and 15th in Strokes Gained: Around The Green. Great form at Deere Run.
Aaron Rai
Englishman Aaron Rai has been playing very good golf of late and is primed to make a run this week. He has five Top 25s and made cuts in both the Players and the PGA Championship in his last 10 starts on the back of some outstanding ball striking. He finished T-12 here last year – his second start at Colonial – and profiles beautifully here ranking Top 15 in GIR, Strokes Gained: Tee To Green, Bogey Avoidance, Driving Accuracy and Par 4 Scoring.
Daniel Berger
A former winner here back in 2020, Daniel Berger is on the comeback trail after 18 months on the sideline and starting to find a bit of his old form. He has made four of his last five cuts and finished T-13 at the Byron Nelson, his last start in Texas. Followed up his win here with two Top 25s. Ranking 4th in GIR, 12th in Driving Accuracy and 13th in Bogey Avoidance, he is a massive Top 10 runner this week.
Greyson Sigg
The pick of the triple figure shots. Playing in great nick with three Top 15 finishes in his last four starts. The key to his game has been how well he has been playing with his irons. Ranks 4th in Bogey Avoidance and 6th in Scrambling. Expecting he is a nice Top 20 bet who can keep his good run going.
Rai looks a good bet to be the top Englishman at Colonial. He is a nice play overall but this is the best play on him. Favourite Justin Rose is not the most consistent proposition these days and likely suffers a letdown after his big PGA Championship.
This field of four includes defending champion Emiliano Grillo but the top play here is Echavarria at better than $3.50. He ranks 12th in Putting Average this season and is in good form with three Top 25 finishes in his last four starts.
