Big Winners | When in Paris

The world’s attention continues to be firmly fixed on Paris, but the show must go on elsewhere — and TAB punters were sure to remember that last week, pulling off a handful of massive wins. From Australian racing to the NRL and the rugby sevens in Paris, we saw some impressive wins from some betting masterminds, but none was more impressive than a Saturday Quaddie at Rosehill.

Jockey Celebration Day at Rosehill brought a 10-race card to the Sydney track, with the Quaddie getting started in Race 7. All four of the final four races on the card had relatively short favourites, but this punter wasn’t afraid to take them on, resulting in an enormous $26,509 from a $75 outlay. Nosey Parker ($26.80) was the first runner to spring an upset, coming from nowhere on the outside to win Race 7, then it was Williamsburg’s ($7.20) turn to bury the favourite in Race 8, leading almost the entire race to make it 2/2 in the Quaddie for this punter. Race 9 saw a thrilling finish, with less than one length separating the first six runners past the post, but it was the favourite Contemporary ($2.80) who prevailed, meaning this bet was going down to the last leg. It was Secret Plan ($51.40) who did just enough to win the last, holding on on the rail to see off second-favourite Silvanito and mark this Quaddie as a grand winner of $26,509.

Staying on that side of the Tasman Sea, more success was enjoyed on the gallops last week, this time in the form of a multi. One racing fan turned their $100 stake into a $15,660 collect, nailing all four legs of their multi at Cranbourne and Hawkesbury. Starting at the New South Wales meeting at Hawkesbury, this punter made their picks for the winners of the last two races on the card. House Of Cards was the $1.80 favourite in Race 7 and he lived up to his short quote, scorching the field for a 2.7L win, but this intrigue was much higher heading into the last race at Hawkesbury, with an $8.00 shot, Troika, the selection in this multi. A strong final 200m ultimately separated the five-year-old from the rest of the field, winning in a tight finish to make it 2/2 at Hawkesbury. It was also the last two races of the day at Cranbourne that this punter zeroed in on, and it was all eyes on Half Yours ($3.40) in Race 8. Once he hit the straight, Half Yours turned on the afterburners to record an impressive win, and Mantua ($2.35) followed suit in the last, meaning this $100 multi made this punter a huge $15,660 better off.

Sunday’s racing was also the scene of a big multi collect, this time in the form of an eight-legger. Spread across the racing at Hawera, Wyong, Sandown and the Sunshine Coast, and made up of win and place bets, this bet was wide-spread and largely leant on favourites to live up to their hype. And that they did, all either winning or placing, while the one leg above even money — Confetti ($3.90) in Race 3 at Hawera — came out on top to seal the deal for this punter, resulting in a massive $10,715 win.

Flying across the world to Paris, one rugby sevens sharp was rewarded for their knowledge, winning $7,395 from a $10 outlay on Wednesday morning. With the women’s sevens drawing to a close, this punter nailed the winner or the winning margin in the gold medal game, the bronze medal game, the fifth-place final and the seventh-place final. As the Black Ferns Sevens came through in the clutch in a riveting gold medal game, this multi was locked in as a winner, making this punter $7,395 richer.

The wins in Paris continued into the week, and one eye-opener was this 17-leg tennis multi. Analysing the matchups in the men’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s singles draws, as well as a handful of matches from the ATP and WTA events in Washington, this tennis mastermind put together an elite multi to flip $11 into $4,167. The prediction of Casper Ruud vs Felix Auger-Aliassime to go to three sets was the longest leg in the multi, and it paid dividends, with the Canadian eventually coming out on top in the deciding set, alongside this punter, who put their tennis smarts to use for a $4,167 win.
