Sweet Torquer (#3) comes here on the short turnaround from Saturday, where she was parked wide with cover for the duration but stayed on nicely to the line for 4th. She is having her first start on the synthetic surface, which is a slight query, however being locally trained you\u2019d expect Sam Logan would have exposed her to it in her work. She looks nicely placed down in the weights carrying just 53.5kg after Tom Wigram\u2019s claim. Should take some beating in a maiden of this quality.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lerado (#2) comes here on the short turnaround from the meeting here last week, where he didn\u2019t have any\u00a0<\/span>favours<\/span>\u00a0in the straight and went to the line untested into 4th. He\u00a0<\/span>shouldn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0have any traffic issues from his wider draw in this small field, where he should be a pair back from the speed with cover throughout. Should be poised behind the speed turning for home and get his chance to go on by these late.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In The Vineyard (#10) is a locally trained filly who ran 2nd at this course and distance last start, where connections lodged a protest due to interference in the straight but were unsuccessful. She draws a nice middle gate here, where she should be able to obtain a handy position just off the speed throughout under George Rooke.\u00a0<\/span>She\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0had a few chances to break her maiden this time\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0but this looks her best chance yet. Can go one better.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lhasa (#1) had more or less lost the race at the 800m mark last start, where he wasn\u2019t able to lead and was always going to struggle to make ground off a hot speed under his big weight.<\/span>\u00a0While he\u00a0<\/span>has to<\/span>\u00a0lug a sizeable impost again here, he should be leading this time around, as\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019d<\/span>\u00a0expect him to have Perfect Dividends covered for early speed over the first 200m from the respective draws this time. From there, I\u00a0<\/span>don\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0expect Sam McNab to be handing up the\u00a0<\/span>front<\/span>\u00a0and he should get his chance to run a\u00a0<\/span>much improved<\/span>\u00a0race. A class horse on his day who can take some beating in this despite the impost.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Indian Falls (#7) is a 4yo Niagara mare resuming for Keith Hawtin, last seen finishing down the track at Ellerslie back in April where she got back and made no impression. She had put in some respectable efforts last season prior to that last-start run and has\u00a0<\/span>form<\/span>\u00a0around much stronger opposition than what she meets here. She maps to land back of midfield from her handy draw, as she may find some of these a touch too sharp over the first couple of furlongs. May need\u00a0<\/span>further, but<\/span>\u00a0could be finishing over the top of these late.\u00a0<\/span>Looks<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>solid<\/span>\u00a0each-way chance.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pink Gin (#4) ran a good race for\u00a0<\/span>2nd<\/span>\u00a0last start at this course and distance, where she was finding the line well but\u00a0<\/span>couldn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0reel in handy mare Chatelle Rose, who was able to dictate terms in front. She maps to again settle off the speed in a 970m contest that looks to have a strong tempo engaged –\u00a0<\/span>possibly a<\/span>\u00a0touch more speed than what was being set out in\u00a0<\/span>front<\/span>\u00a0last start. If they overdo it in front,\u00a0<\/span>they\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0be struggling to hold her off late in the piece. Hard to beat.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

El Speedy Man (#1) comes here on the short turnaround from last week where he battled on fairly to\u00a0<\/span>7th, but<\/span>\u00a0was racing down in trip over 1550m in a much stronger race that day. He looks far better suited getting back out over the 2000m journey here while also sliding back in grade. The wide draw will\u00a0<\/span>likely see<\/span>\u00a0him get back off a moderate speed early, which may well set up nicely for Samantha Collett to make a mid-race move, as she did when winning on him a few starts back. Looks clearly the one to beat if he brings his A game.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
