While the final score was relatively close, the Hurricanes were always in control in this battle, as the Crusaders struggle to close the gap on the host in the second half, often conceding a try before scoring one of their own to only ever get within seven points of the competition leaders in the second 40. The Crusaders’ defence was made to look ordinary by this rampant Hurricanes attack, and while the visitors did well to convert on a lot of their scoring opportunities, they were outplayed across the park, missing 29 tackles. It was a handful of the Crusaders’ usual top guns who kept them in the fight, with Leicester Fainga’anuku having another standout stint at openside flanker, while David Havili and Christian Lio-Willie were everywhere on attack. Defensively, it was another big shift from Ethan Blackadder, who had 17 tackles, while Antonio Shalfoon topped the charts with 20 tackles of his own. Kurtis MacDonald had a few strong runs on the wing, but the Crusaders simply didn’t generate enough opportunities in the capital and they were made to pay on the scoreboard, but they at least picked up a losing bonus point to keep in touch with the top four.

The Blues put together a second half masterclass last week to beat Moana Pasifika 45-19. Trailing 7-12 late in the first half, the Aucklanders were far from convincing in the opening 35 minutes, but a strong finish saw Kade Banks power over the line moments before the break for a 14-12 halftime lead. The Aucklanders then wasted no time in getting off to a hot start in the second 40, as Patrick Tuipulotu crashed over less than a minute after the break and that got the Blues rolling, with James Mullan, Stephen Perofeta and Beauden Barrett adding tries of their own shortly after to keep the points coming. Debutant Terrell Peita capped off the scoring in the dying moments to put the margin back above 20 points and cap off an excellent 40 minutes of footy for the Blues, and although there were some errors on the discipline and defensive fronts, Vern Cotter has to be happy with his team’s performance. Tuipulotu was immense in his 80 minutes, producing plenty of strong carries and tackles, and his partnership with Sam Darry is shaping up to be an elite one. Hoskins Sotutu also carried strongly, Anton Segner got involved in plenty of work in tight and Barrett had a couple of incisive runs.

A couple of injuries have struck the Crusaders, with Taha Kemara (knee) and Braydon Ennor (hamstring) out, seeing Rivez Reihana and Dallas McLeod take their starting spots. Sevu Reece also comes back into the starting team while, for the Blues, a couple of All Blacks return from injury, in the form of Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Dalton Papali’i. They will have a lot of firepower to call upon on their bench, which features Anton Segner, Finlay Christie and Beauden Barrett and that will set up a big finish in what will be a high-scoring game. The over has hit in the Blues’ last four games and in four of the Crusaders’ last six games and the squads from both teams are set up to score points.

Best
Over 55.5 ($1.92)

Value
Blues 1-12 ($3.60)

Try Scorer
Caleb Clarke ($10 First, $1.98 Anytime)

Same Game Multi
Caleb Clarke Try / Codie Taylor Try / Hoskins Sotutu Try ($16.21)

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#reds"></use>

Reds

vs

Chiefs

Saturday, 9:35pm | Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

Reds +6.5 ($1.90)

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#chiefs"></use>

The Reds picked up a hugely important 30-21 victory over the Brumbies last Saturday to leapfrog their Brumbies foes in the standings and re-enter the top four. It was a good, old-fashioned arm wrestle in the rain in Brisbane and the Reds showed good grit to weather the storm and score 10 unanswered points in the final 20 minutes to win the game. After conceding the first try of the night inside the opening five minutes, the in-form Lukhan Salakaia-Loto ran a strong line to burst over and respond almost immediately for Queensland. Josh Flook then scored the Reds’ second just before halftime for a 17-7 lead, but it didn’t take the Brumbies long to reply with two tries of their own in the second 40 to make it 20-21. It was a short-lived buffer for the visitors though, with Seru Uru powering over from close range to see the Reds hit the front, before Ben Volavola added a penalty goal soon after to put the game out of the Brumbies’ reach. The Reds were made to do plenty of defending in the second half but held firm in an impressive victory, with their scrum also proving to be a weapon. It wasn’t all good at set piece, with their lineout being unreliable, but the hard running of Salakaia-Loto, Uru and Hunter Paisami and the brilliant defensive and breakdown work of Fraser McReight gave the Reds just enough of an edge to beat the Brumbies.

The Chiefs enjoyed a breather last week after defeating the Fijian Drua 42-22 in Super Round. Despite being a 20-point victory, it was a hard-fought win for the Hamiltonians, with the relentless ball-running of the Drua forcing the Chiefs to make tackle-after-tackle right through to the final hooter. With just 41% possession, Jono Gibbes’ men had to make the most of the ball when they had it, and they made no mistake in doing so, scoring six tries. There were a couple of beauties in there, with the Chiefs playing freely in the backs and scoring off some well-constructed set plays and counterattacks, while the forwards were able to showcase their power with a couple of close-range tries. Damian McKenzie was the one pulling the strings in the backs, with his distribution and kicking game proving to be a pivotal piece of the puzzle, and the likes of Isaac Hutchinson, Leroy Carter and Dan Sinkinson benefitted, while Simon Parker, Wallace Sititi and Tupou Vaa’i worked hard up front.

It’s a relatively settled 23 for Les Kiss’ side, with the return of Carter Gordon of the bench being the highlight. George Blake and Lachie Anderson replace Aidan Ross and Tim Ryan respectively, while Gibbs is welcoming back Luke Jacobson from injury but is without Brodie McAlister (calf), Jahrome Brown (concussion) and Leroy Carter (hamstring) who all picked up injuries in their last outing. Xavier Roe comes into the starting team and Liam Coombes-Fabling, Kyren Taumoefolau and Isaac Hutchinson form a new back three. That makes for a somewhat weakened Chiefs team and the market is underrating them again in this clash. They are 4-1 at home this season and are 12-7 ATS in their last 19 games at Suncorp and their attack will more than keep them in this contest.

Best
Reds +6.5 ($1.90)

Value
Reds 1-12 ($4.20)

Try Scorer
Lachie Anderson ($14 First, $2.15 Anytime)

Same Game Multi
Reds +6.5 / Lachie Anderson Try / Tyrone Thompson Try ($8.55)

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#highlanders"></use>

Highlanders

vs

Waratahs

Saturday, 4:35pm | Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin

Highlanders -7.5 ($1.90)

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#waratahs"></use>

The Highlanders were held scoreless in the second half in Ba last week to fall to a 14-24 defeat. Now 4-7 on the season, the Landers find themselves in ninth on the ladder but still within reach of a top six finish, but last week’s result did them no favours, with a 14-12 halftime buffer quickly disappearing in the second half. Jonah Lowe did well to finish in the corner and open the Highlanders’ scoring, before Veveni Lasaqa scored through a lineout maul a couple of minutes before the break to put the visitors up. However, their momentum was short-lived, conceding a soft try in the 43rd minute, before the hosts rumbled over for another try five minutes later to build an unassailable 14-24 lead. The visitors weren’t without their chances to get back in the game, amassing 16 entries into the Drua’s 22, but they often came up with handling errors, botched lineouts or a lack of discipline to throw away many of these chances and leave Fiji empty-handed. TK Howden and Nikora Broughton got through a stack of work up front and Timoci Tavatavanawai had another bustling running game, but he couldn’t help the visitors overcome their 28 turnovers and 34 missed tackles in a sloppy showing.

The Waratahs fell to another loss last week, this time going down to the Force 17-20 at home. The three-point margin at the end of the 80 minutes was flattering for the Tahs, who were generally outclassed across the park and had just 38% possession and 30% territory. That resulted in New South Wales often scrambling defensively, and while they did an admirable job in that department, it meant that they spent large chunks of the game on the back foot. Joseph Suaali’i saw few attacking opportunities in his return from injury in what was a generally uninspiring performance from the Tahs, but there were some players worth mentioning for their defensive efforts. Angus Scott-Young topped the charts with a mammoth 31 tackles, with no other player even cracking the 20s. Matt Philip was a workhorse again but saw some struggles at the lineout and Andrew Kellaway looked to inject himself often.

The Highlanders will be bolstered by the return of Caleb Tangitau this week, forming a dangerous back, while Tomas Lavanini makes his return to add punch to the forward pack. The Tahs have been dealt a couple of untimely injury blows, with Philip and Joey Walton out this week, seeing Lawson Creighton shift to second five-eighth and Jack Debreczeni come in at #10. The hosts’ reinforcements come at an important time and Tangitau especially will be a big factor in helping them get the win. I expect the Landers’ pack to be far too good in this contest, which will give Tangitau and co. plenty of chances out wide and make for a relatively comfortable win.

Best
Highlanders -7.5 ($1.90)

Value
Power Plays — Highlanders to Lead at Halftime by 1 – 10 & Win by 11 – 20 ($7.00)

Try Scorer
Jona Nareki ($15 First, $2.25 Anytime)

Same Game Multi
Jona Nareki Try / Jack Taylor Try / Lawson Creighton Try ($23.63)

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#moanapasifika"></use>

Moana Pasifika

vs

Hurricanes

Saturday, 7:05pm | North Harbour Stadium, Auckland

Over 64.5 ($1.90)

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#hurricanes"></use>

Moana Pasifika fell to their 10th loss on the trot on Saturday with a 19-45 defeat to the Blues. It was the same old story for Tana Umaga’s team, as they started off strongly to lead 12-7 at the 35-minute mark. However, when the wheels fell off, they did in a big way, conceding a try in the dying minutes of the first half before giving up the first four tries of the second half to concede 31 consecutive points and throw another game away. It was the same old errors that crept into Moana’s game in the second 40, as their defensive discipline fell away to allow for plenty of easy metres for the Blues in the carry and that ended up being MP’s undoing. It was particularly disappointing after their encouraging first half, which saw Millennium Sanerivi dot down for a pair of tries, the first of which coming on the back of a Springboks-like trick play, setting up a make-shift lineout maul in the midfield to catch the Blues off-guard and open the scoring. A nifty switch play set up Sanerivi’s second, rounding out an excellent 35 minutes of Moana rugby, but it was all downhill from there. Semisi Tupou Ta’eiloa was a force on attack, as were, Glen Vaihu and Miracle Faiʻilagi, while Allan Craig racked up a massive 30 tackles, but the positives stopped there for MP.

The Hurricanes recorded another important win last week as they toppled the Crusaders 38-31. While there were some sloppy moments in the first half, it all came together in the final minutes of the period as Josh Moorby and Cam Roigard both scored to go bang-bang and put the Hurricanes up 24-10 at halftime. From there, the hosts maintained a lead for the rest of the game, despite trading tries with the visitors in the second half. Fehi Fineanganofo put the game to rest with another brilliant solo effort to record his 15th try of the season, but this was a win that was largely generated from the forward pack and from Roigard. The superstar halfback had one try and one try assist but his impact was obvious all over the field, providing crisp ball for the forwards and backs and managing to pin the Crusaders in their own half repeatedly thanks to his accurate kicking game. Devan Flanders was impressive off the bench, contributing to what was another impressive night out from the Canes’ loosies, and Jordie Barrett and Billy Proctor barely put a foot wrong in the midfield.

Faletoi Peni rejoins the starting team to add some real firepower in the midfield in what is a generally settled MP 23, but there are plenty of changes from the Canes. Their star halves Cam Roigard (knee) Ruben Love (ankle) both picked up injuries last week, while Warner Dearns, Peter Lakai and Jordie Barrett have been given the week off. That opens up some space for some more inexperienced players, with Vernon Bason and Jone Rova starting and Kini Naholo set to make his season debut off the bench. Despite these rotations, this is still a very strong Hurricanes team and they will help put together a big total on Saturday. We have seen some large scores in Canes games lately, including 69 total points last week, and the over has hit in three of MP’s last four home games.

Best
Over 64.5 ($1.90)

Value
Power Plays — Fehi Fineanganofo OR Josh Moorby 1st Try Scorer & Hurricanes Win by 21 – 40 ($8.00)

Try Scorer
Fehi Fineanganofo ($7.00 First, $1.38 Anytime)

Same Game Multi
Fehi Fineanganofo Try / Callum Harkin Try / Millennium Sanerivi Try ($8.40)

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#brumbies"></use>

Brumbies

vs

Force

Saturday, 9:35pm | GIO Stadium, Canberra

Force +6.5 ($1.90)

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-super-rugby-icon.svg?v=20260924a#force"></use>

The Brumbies came up short in a big clash against the Reds last week, losing 21-30. It saw their Queensland rivals overtake them for fourth place on the ladder, leaving the Brumbies in sixth and by no means assured of a finals position with just four rounds to play. It was ACT’s third successive defeat and it came as they were frustratingly unable to crack the Reds’ defence in the final 15 minutes despite getting plenty of chances to, at the very least, come out of the game with a losing bonus point. After Lachie Shaw dotted down inside the opening five minutes, the Brumbies got off to a dream start in Brisbane, and it was a repeat dose in the second half too, this time with Rob Valetini scoring in the opening minutes of the half. David Feliuai then powered his way over the chalk 10 minutes later to put the visitors up 21-20, but that would be all she wrote for Stephen Larkham’s side, as the Reds finished strongly to win the game, scoring 10 straight points and denying the Brumbies of some good scoring opportunities. ACT had the ascendency at the lineout and had some lengthy passages of attacking play, but they were outperformed at scrum time and conceded 17 turnovers, many of which coming at costly occasions, to lose this game. Valetini was again the standout for the Brumbies, carrying all night long, and Tom Wright and Feliuai were the top performers in the backs.

The Force picked up a huge win on the road last week to topple the Waratahs 20-17. It has kept the Western Australians’ season alive and it came in convincing fashion, despite the close-looking scoreboard. The Force had a dominant 70% territory and 62% possession to completely control the flow of the game, and while their execution in the Tahs’ 22 left a lot to be desired, they always looked like the likely victors. Ben Donaldson was the star, expertly guiding his back line on attack and repeatedly kicking his side into good field position, while also making a big line break to set up Dylan Pietsch’s second try to effectively seal the win. Pietsch was impressive with his carries and, as always, Nick Champion de Crespigny was in the thick of everything. Mac Grealy had another good performance at the back and Carlo Tizzanno got stuck in with a lot of carries in tight.

The Brumbies’ pack gets a boost this week, with Allan Alaalatoa and Billy Pollard returning to the squad, and there are minimal changes from Simon Cron, with Harry Johnson-Holmes’ promotion to the starting front row being the only switch-up. That sets up a riveting Australian derby to end the round and the Force are ready to record another statement win, this time in Canberra. Their pack has gotten better as the season has gone on and with Donaldson in good form, he’ll be able to get his backs firing, making the visitors great value.

Best
Force +6.5 ($1.90)

Value
Force 1-12 ($4.20)

Try Scorer
Dylan Pietsch ($12 First, $2.10 Anytime)

Same Game Multi
Force +6.5 / Dylan Pietsch Try / David Feliuai Try ($12.01)

          Bet Now

See below for our expert Super Rugby Pacific tips and best bets for Round 13 this weekend!
