The Adelaide Racing Carnival reaches its feature meeting this Saturday at Morphettville with the Group 1 The Goodwood headlining a quality nine-race program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s $1 million sprint has attracted a strong field, including last-start Quokka runner-up Rey Magnerio, along with the in-form Extragalactic and Flying For Fun, who was far from disgraced finishing fourth in the Robert Sangster a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also includes four Group 3 contests, while punters should note the rail is out in selected sections and the track is currently rated a Soft 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAISY (9)<\/strong> finds it tough to win but did show some real promise when\u00a0running on\u00a0late for fourth here over the mile last start.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hawkes-trained mare was held up badly for a run approaching the furlong,\u00a0eventually\u00a0angling into the clear to finish half a length off\u00a0Clicap.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Considering she was five weeks between runs,\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0still open to some improvement after tackling a tougher race at Group 3 level the run prior\u00a0down\u00a0in Sydney.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A\u00a0place-getter\u00a0over this trip in the past, she has enough early speed to offset the wide gate and land close to the speed.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She blew the start and was forced to make a move three-wide at Balaklava last time out over\u00a02200m, finding the front out of the turn and then drawing\u00a0nearly two\u00a0lengths clear once she found an extra gear.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hard to say she put much away that day given they were a tired bunch, but\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0clearly a stayer and looks capable of handling longer now from a perfect gate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SCHEELITE (3)<\/strong> is a talented front-running type who should roll forward and run the race on his own terms.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He did just that at Flemington over the autumn when he claimed the\u00a0Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue before heading to the Doncaster where things never went his way from a wide gate.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That was the case again last week in the Golden Mile at Bendigo where he faded late after\u00a0settling up\u00a0on the speed, but the decision to race on the quick backup does\u00a0warrant\u00a0respect from the inside draw this time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Capable of handling a wet track in what is\u00a0arguably an\u00a0easier race, he could surprise a few.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The daughter to Astern was flat first-up when she was last to greet the judge in\u00a0a Group\u00a03 at\u00a0Caulfield, but\u00a0has made steady improvement back to fillies and\u00a0mares\u00a0grade, last seen running fourth in the Tobin Bronze here over\u00a01200m\u00a0from a long way back.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019ll\u00a0need some early luck to find cover from wider out, but hard fit now and a noted improver the deeper she gets into her prep, she rates a definite each-way chance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WATCHME WIN (5)<\/strong> is lowkey flying for Andrew\u00a0Gluyas\u00a0this prep, returning a place in both runs back.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a big step up in class for the five-year-old son to Harry Angel, but there was a lot to like about the way\u00a0he charged the line late in the Hawkes Stakes a few weeks ago over\u00a0100m\u00a0shorter.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Where he winds up from the wide gate is the big question, but if\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0in the front half and afforded the chance to switch off early, he should be strong in the finish again.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
