Minnesota suffered another costly defeat at the pointy end of the regular season on Saturday, losing to Philadelphia 103-115. A dominant defensive effort in the first half from Minnesota saw the hosts head into the main break with just 41 points to their name. That helped Minnesota to a 10-point lead early in the third, but they went on to immediately concede a 4-17 run as part of a 24-42 third quarter, and there was no coming back from there. Anthony Edwards was awful in his return from injury, going 3\/15 from the floor for eight points, three assists and two steals, and Donte DiVinceno, Naz Reid, Ayo Dosunmu and Rudy Gobert all shared his shooting struggles. Bones Hyland and Julius Randle each had 21 points but that couldn\u2019t overcome a horror shooting night from the team.<\/p>\n

Charlotte are still a chance of finishing in the top six after another big win on Saturday, beating Indiana 129-108. It was an easygoing win for the hosts, who dominated offensively and had a 38-24 lead at the end of the opening quarter to lay the foundations for another blowout. It was another excellent outing from the trio of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel and this time it was Miller who led the charge, with 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and one block. Ball had 18 points, six rebounds, nine assists and two assists and Knueppel recorded 20 points, four assists and two steals for another impressive outing.<\/p>\n

Edwards is questionable again for Monday’s matchup and Jaden McDaniels is set to miss his fifth successive game, meaning Minnesota will be undermanned again in this contest. With the way that this Charlotte team has been rolling, they are going to make Minnesota’s offence pay and I simply can’t see the hosts finding enough points to keep pace with Ball and co.<\/p>\n

An amazing 51-point game from Cooper Flagg couldn\u2019t get Dallas a win over Orlando on Saturday, as Jason Kidd\u2019s team slipped to their eighth loss in their last nine games. The 127-138 loss keeps Dallas behind New Orleans in that tanking race and it came in another awful defensive night, with a 130.4 defensive rating leading to the loss. Flagg did his best to get Dallas out of their hole, exploding in the fourth quarter for 24 points on 8\/12 shooting, finishing as a +7 in nine minutes in the period, but with Dallas trailing by as many as 40 points early in the fourth, completing the comeback was an impossible task for the rookie. He finished with 51 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block in a record-breaking night, while Brandon Williams had 23 points and five assists.<\/p>\n

The Lakers’ season has somewhat come tumbling down in the past few days, first with the news of Luka Don\u010di\u0107’s hamstring injury (2+ weeks) and then the news of Austin Reaves’ oblique injury (4-6 weeks), putting the chances of a deep postseason run in serious doubt. It’s been an impressive regular season from LA, already with 50 wins, but their 96-139 thumping from Oklahoma City on Friday was a rough indicator of where they may be against the league’s best, as Don\u010di\u0107 went 3\/10 from the floor for 12 points, seven assists and six turnovers before hobbling off the floor with a hamstring injury. LeBron James also looked ordinary, with 13 points, six rebounds and two assists, making for a truly awful start to Los Angeles’ road trip.<\/p>\n

Without Don\u010di\u0107 and Reaves, this is a less-than-mediocre roster that JJ Redick has at his disposal. This Dallas team has tried to remain competitive of late, despite having no real incentive to do so, and that makes this a dangerous game for Los Angeles. A lot will be on LeBron’s shoulders here, but the lack of depth for the Lakers has me keen to bet against them as favourites.<\/p>\n

Golden State are expected to welcome back Steph Curry from injury on Monday in what is a timely boost. The superstar guard has missed the team’s last 27 games and they have barely stayed afloat in that time, going 9-18 in his absence to be 10th in the West, and they’re virtually locked into that seed for their playoff positioning. Their latest outing came in a 111-118 loss to Cleveland, as GS turned a 98-94 fourth quarter lead into a 105-110 deficit, and they couldn’t reel the visitors back in in the clutch, resulting in another L. Gui Santos was a standout again, with 25 points, four rebounds and four assists, and Brandin Podziemski also notched up 25 points, four assists and two steals on the night. Draymond Green had 8\/9\/9 in a near-triple-double, but another poor offensive night from the team saw them go down.<\/p>\n

Houston have benefitted from a relatively soft schedule of late to put together a five-game win streak, as they fight to keep in touch with the top four. Just 1.5 games back of the #4 seed Denver and two games back of the #3 seed Lakers, there is plenty of play for for Houston, and they made no mistake in recording a 140-106 thrashing of Utah on Saturday. The visitors were never in with a sniff, as Houston’s offence ran riot, scoring 33+ points in each quarter to log an excellent 137.4 offensive rating. Another sharp-shooting night from Kevin Durant led the way, with 25 points, five rebounds, six assists and two blocks, and Amen Thompson also impressed with 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.<\/p>\n

Even with Curry back, I don’t have a lot of hope for this Golden State lineup. Curry will be on a minutes restriction and without the likes of Jimmy Butler, Al Horford and Moses Moody, they don’t have the depth or quality to trouble Houston. The visitors have started to find their offensive groove of late and Golden State aren’t going to have the answers for the full 48 minutes.<\/p>\n
