Minnesota picked up another extremely valuable win without Anthony Edwards on Thursday, pulling off an unlikely overtime comeback to beat Houston 110-108. A dramatic and thrilling end to regulation saw the game head to OT, but Minnesota were extremely sluggish out the gates, conceding a 0-13 run to start the extra period. However, the hosts flipped the game on its head thanks to some unlikely contributors, in Mike Conley and Kyle Anderson, getting Minny\u2019s OT scoring started. The deficit was quickly trimmed to five points and Donte DiVincenzo tied the game with an off-steal three, before Julius Randle put Minnesota up 110-108, with a pair of missed Kevin Durant FTs sealing the win for the hosts. Randle was shaky with his shot but shouldered a lot of the offensive load, finishing with 24 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Jaden McDaniels had 25 points, two steals and two blocks. Rudy Gobert also added 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks and Naz Reid added 14 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks before getting ejected.<\/p>\n

Detroit coasted to a 129-108 victory over New Orleans on Friday, with an excellent shooting night helping them to an easy win. It was Jalen Duren who led the way, with 30 points on 86.8% TS%, 10 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks while Daniss Jenkins had another standout game with 19 points and nine assists, drilling five threes in the process. Kevin Huerter dropped 22 points, Tobias Harris had 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Ausar Thompson had 11 points, three steals and two blocks as the team shot 65.8% eFG%.<\/p>\n

There are a number of key names on the injury report, including McDaniels (out), Isaiah Stewart (out), Duren (questionable), Harris (questionable) and Ayo Dosunmu (questionable). That potentially puts out a number of key offensive players on both sides, and I expect the under to get up here. The under has hit in 26 of Minnesota\u2019s 38 home games and is 20-14-1 in Detroit\u2019s road games this season.<\/p>\n

Charlotte have won five consecutive games and are now five games above .500 to stay within reach of a top-six seed in the East, and Friday\u2019s 114-103 win over New York was an indication that they are more than capable of finishing in a playoff seed. It was an impressive defensive showing from Charlotte against the league\u2019s third-best offence, limiting them to a 115.7 offensive rating, but it was the hosts\u2019 offence that earned them the win. Kon Knueppel was outstanding on that end, with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists and LaMelo Ball started hot to finish with 22 points, five rebounds and six assists. Brandon Miller contributed 21 points and eight rebounds, Miles Bridges had 17 points and Coby White had another valuable bench contribution of 17 points to make this a comfortable win for Charlotte.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia welcomed back both Paul George and Joel Embiid on Thursday with a 157-137 thumping of Chicago. This was a blowout in every sense, with the margin getting out to 47 points early in the fourth, as the hosts recorded a bonkers 149.5 offensive rating. Joel Embiid was unstoppable with his 35 points, six rebounds and seven assists in just 28 minutes, while Paul George shot well for his 28 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. VJ Edgecombe was also dominant with 22 points, six rebounds and six assists and Quentin Grimes did a bit of everything with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks.<\/p>\n

Tyrese Maxey is questionable heading into Sunday\u2019s game, but with Embiid and George both off the injury report, I expect Philly to provide a real challenge to the hot hosts. This game is a huge one in the context of the standings and I expect the top-end talent of Philly to stand up here, making them the bet as underdogs.<\/p>\n

Phoenix have lost six of their last seven games after narrowly falling to Denver 123-125 on Wednesday. Tied at 103-103 early in the fourth, and Phoenix did well to tie the game again at 121-121 with just 54 seconds on the clock. Denver\u2019s stars kept the points coming for the visitors, but the hosts did not have the answers, as Devin Booker missed his game-winner attempt from three, seeing Phoenix settle for the loss. That capped off another poor shooting night from the field for Booker, but his 11\/13 shooting from the line helped him to 22 points and eight assists, while Jalen Green had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists. Grayson Allen also finished on 21 points in 23 minutes in his first game back from a four-game injury layoff, and Royce O\u2019Neal was rock-solid with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks, but Phoenix\u2019s slight lack of offensive execution down the stretch proved to be costly.<\/p>\n

Utah did their best to throw away their game against Denver on Saturday, losing 129-135. Leading by 14 points with just 3:20 to play in the third quarter, Utah held a significant buffer until midway through the fourth when the hosts finally started to kick into gear, putting together a game-winning 9-28 run. It was a trademark tank job from Will Hardy, resting the likes of Kyle Filipowski and Brice Sensabaugh for the fourth quarter to help their lead fade away. Filipowski impressed again in the opening three quarters, with 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Sensabaugh had 13 points, six rebounds and two steals. Cody Williams was also solid with 24 points and seven assists, but it didn\u2019t matter as Utah\u2019s tanking priorities took over.<\/p>\n

On night two of a back-to-back, Utah will be taking it easy in Phoenix and, against the hosts\u2019 switchable and lengthy defence, that\u2019s going to make for a lot of offensive struggles for Utah. Four of Phoenix\u2019s last five games have hit the under and the under is 24-13-1 in their home games this season.<\/p>\n
