Initially going 1-2 in his first three promotional appearances, Garcia has managed to right the ship in a big way by playing to his strengths.

Both regionally and on bigger stages, Garcia has done his best work when pushing the action and letting the chips fall where they may. Heavy-handed, surprisingly lengthy, and conditioned for long fights, Garcia has leaned into his positive attributes and come out aggressively in recent years.

This has led to some chaotic fights and hairy moments but ultimately paved the way for the success he currently enjoys. Garcia is defensively liable and has hit the canvas before but hasn’t let that stop him from instigating slug fests and generally coming out on top.

There is credit due for his improvements made since his rough opening in the organization but he hasn’t grown much in complexity from those days. Put simply, Garcia has become more effective at what he does but doesn’t bring many new tricks to the table. As such, he should find a willing, able, and similarly equipped finisher in David Onama.

No stranger to a brawl, Onama is riding a gritty four-fight win streak of his own. Most recently in action edging out Giga Chikadze over three rounds, Onama had to rely on wrestling to tip the scales in a competitive bout.

Sharing in common with his opponent this weekend, Onama also had a rocky organizational start at 2-2. Of particular note was a three round war with Nate Landwehr that helped expose some of Onama’s flaws as well as shave time off the young fighter’s career.

Onama has done well to get back on track since that early tumultuous stretch but still owns some negative tendencies that have yet to entirely dissipate. Primary of which is his willingness to oblige chaos, a seemingly immutable characteristic that comes to head when leather is flying fast.

6-2 in the UFC overall, Onama has managed to use wrestling to secure a couple of victories but stands to have a much simpler showdown with Garcia this weekend. Neither man has demonstrated reliable wrestling that can overwhelm opponents and both have displayed competent takedown defense in the past.

All things considered, this is a headlining bout poised to create fireworks. A fast pace from the opening bell favors Garcia as he will step into the cage the bigger man, heavier hitter, and better conditioned athlete.

Where Onama stands to have a chance is in exploiting the speed advantage he will carry into the cage. Onama has fatigued down the stretch of even three-round affairs but when competing at a more cerebral pace, Onama has shown improvement on that front.

These two are likely to clash early and often in explosive ways. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see either man hitting the deck at some point but ultimately it is Garcia who has been here, done that, and has the power in both hands to end things violently.

Bet: Garcia Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $1.83

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-country-flags-icon.svg?v=20260909a#dominican-republic"></use>

Waldo Cortes-Acosta

vs

Ante Delija

Heavyweight Bout

Cortes-Acosta Head To Head @ $2.10

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-country-flags-icon.svg?v=20260909a#croatia"></use>

Not every fight of his has been a thrilling showcase but there is no doubting the success of “Salsa Boy”. Having already amassed an unlikely 7-2 record in the UFC, Waldo Cortes-Acosta has proven a fairly reliable fighter in a division full of inconsistency.

His most recent appearance saw him fall short over three rounds to the heavy hands of Sergei Pavlovich. The fight wasn’t a tremendous showing for Cortes-Acosta and produced minimal fireworks but his larger body of work was enough to establish him as an early betting favorite this weekend.

Deceptively quick for the division, Cortes-Acosta has earned great success with a busy jab and a solid hook that works off of it. Low kicks have been a natural addition to his offense and work well in conjunction with his generally mobile style.

His respectable gas tank ties things together and helps keep him consistent throughout a fight. He isn’t a terribly nuanced fighter but he uses what tools he has quite well. There is also an argument to be made he displays a relatively high fight IQ but simply lacks a deep bag of tricks that enable him to mix it up.

With competent takedown defense and solid urgency to rise back to his feet when grounded, Cortes-Acosta tends to do a good job of keeping things where he wants. Cortes-Acosta’s lack of punching power has led to him getting outgunned on occasion (Pavlovich being a recent example) but he is always good to produce workmanlike efforts and test the conditioning of his foes.

On the other side of the cage is something of a more typical potential contender at heavyweight. Ante Delija is only 1-0 in the UFC but has been regarded as a meaningful figure outside the organization for years. His two-minute blowout of Marcin Tybura helped acquaint him with Octagon-minded fans and he now knocks on the door of top 5 match-ups.

Delija’s addition to the roster at age 35 has done nothing to stall his momentum and it makes sense when one sees the results of his concussive power. Protege of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and stablemate of current divisional king Tom Aspinall, his name is brought up in big conversations but he has a lot to prove at UFC Fight Night 263.

The Croatian is a surprisingly fast fighter with knockout power in both hands but he tends to throw from a planted position and has had his own defense exploited in the past. Delija is a competent grappler but the majority of his career has seen him live and die by his striking.

Delija isn’t afraid to flip a coin and see who comes out ahead in tense exchanges but it was only a bit over a year ago he was taken out in a single round by Valentin Moldavsky. A groin injury allegedly impacted Delija in the bout, but he typically employs a similar game plan from one bout to another.

Being heavy handed and throwing in combinations is enough to get a lot of wins in the heavyweight division but Ante Delija lacks the foot speed that may be the difference in this contest. Though there will be a clear difference in power on display, Cortes-Acosta stands to be the slicker, quicker, and far more agile fighter overall.

The odds have been jumping back and forth but I believe Cortes-Acosta is the one to trust this weekend. He has proven the ability to win rounds, game plan effectively, and put out enough volume to challenge the gas tank of his opponents. Look for “Salsa Boy” to dance into the winner’s circle with a fleet-footed showing.

Bet: Cortes-Acosta Head To Head @ $2.10

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-country-flags-icon.svg?v=20260909a#usa"></use>

Jeremiah Wells

vs

Themba Gorimbo

Welterweight Bout

Wells Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $3.35

For a moment, Themba Gorimbo was one of the most well-known names in the UFC. Having a house bought for him by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in 2023, the star power of Gorimbo surged in a big way.

Now, it’s been almost a year since Gorimbo has been in the cage and his last appearance was a losing one. Choked to sleep by perennial veteran Vicente Luque, the time away has been intentional as Gorimbo healed from injury and realigned his training.

The first Zimbabwean to win a fight in the UFC, Gorimbo has proven much more than just a country’s early representative. At 6’1” (185cm) with a lanky frame for the welterweight division, one would be forgiven for thinking Gorimbo relishes most in a rangy kickboxing match.

Subverting expectations left and right, Gorimbo is a surprisingly mixed bag with more finishing potential than his record suggests. In fact, his style is more volatile than it appears at first glance as he offers meaningful ways to end a fight no matter where it takes him.

He lacks the power to flatten opponents from range but makes up for it by putting out competent traffic on the outside. Gorimbo does more damage at close range though, where he uncorks elbows and knees against shorter foes with regularity. On the mat, Gorimbo’s long limbs are put to use to fish for chokes and help secure back takes.

Gorimbo’s combustible nature is not all positive though, as his own defense suffers due to his aggressive pacing. This alone is a variable concern for most but a particularly serious one for the potentially fragile Gorimbo.

Front-loaded and dangerous as he may be, Gorimbo has looked vulnerable when meeting stiff resistance. He has proven to be an effective hammer but when a fighter won’t go away or has something big to throw back, he has shown the tendency to wilt.

Having turned 39-years-old this week and returning from a nearly two-year layoff, this weekend represents the greatest litmus test of Jeremiah Wells’ career. Entering on a two-fight skid, Wells could have been given the nod against Max Griffin early last year but has been on the shelf recovering from injuries since.

4-2 in the UFC since his debut in 2021, Wells was already in his mid-30s by the time he got to the Octagon and now his longevity in the sport is questioned in its entirety. An energetic wrestle-boxer who firmly fits the classic archetype, Wells found success while employing both sets of skills simultaneously.

Recent outings have seen him shy away from a cleanly blended fight and it’s no surprise his results have gotten muddier as a consequence. Wells is durable, owns power in both hands, and has the wrestling ability to get results if he pursues them, but he is only as good as he’s willing to let himself be.

Wells is the heavier puncher and owns credentialed wrestling skills. Though his career hasn’t been terribly long, he has demonstrated the skill set to trouble a fighter like Themba Gorimbo. If he isn’t on his last legs as a fighter, Wells should be able to string his offense together, keep Gorimbo on his heels, and potentially close the show on the Zimbabwean.

Bet: Wells Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $3.35

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-country-flags-icon.svg?v=20260909a#usa"></use>

Isaac Dulgarian

vs

Yadier Del Valle

Featherweight Bout

Dulgarian Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $2.15

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-country-flags-icon.svg?v=20260909a#cuba"></use>

Isaac Dulgarian v Yadier del Valle:

2-1 in the UFC, things haven’t gone entirely according to plan for Isaac Dulgarian but he is making a good account of himself and learning on the job. Very much fighting in the same trend as he was on the regional scene, Dulgarian is a fast starter who leans heavily on his wrestling background as a Division II collegiate success.

Dulgarian has translated his wrestling well into MMA but deserves credit for developing variable finishing tools for the sport. While he is still young, aggressive, and could be accused of trying to force submissions at times, Dulgarian has improved on the front of using ground and pound and positional dominance to help close the show.

Thus far few have been able to withstand the whirlwind of offense Dulgarian throws at his opposition but it does call into question his lasting power in tougher fights. The singular loss of Dulgarian’s career came at the hands of perennial prospect punisher Christian Rodriguez and Dulgarian’s fatigue down the stretch was a prominent factor.

Dulgarian hasn’t been in the cage for over a year but consistently trends upward as a fighter developing quickly. At only 29-years-old and already one of the more explosive prospects in the division, it stands as no surprise Dulgarian was established as the betting favorite this weekend.

9-0 Yadier del Valle is only 1-0 in the UFC but has already been pegged as a future contender. “The Cuban Problem” has planted his flag in Texas and looked rather impressive throughout his unblemished career.

A decision win on Dana White’s Contender Series earned him a shot in the UFC and del Valle wasted no time in getting a first round submission win. Grappling has always been a focus for del Valle and an area in which he finds great comfort navigating in.

He does his best work from top position and like many prospects enjoy chasing the back but del Valle may need to lean on his striking to get the job done this weekend. Fortunately he has proven far from helpless, demonstrating surprisingly thoughtful striking – albeit against limited opposition.

The 29-year-old Cuban lacks punching power but generally fights to pave a way towards offensive grappling. However, he will struggle to get the better of Isaac Dulgarian in a wrestling match and has yet to win meaningful fights with just his striking.

This contest is poised to get interesting if the pace starts high and manages to persist through the first half of the bout. Dulgarian has shown a tendency to fade in the past and del Valle has a surprising amount of experience going late in three-round bouts; surviving to that point is the challenge.

Dulgarian should be able to have his way early in this bout and that stands to set the tone for the remainder. This is tough prospect matchmaking at its finest from the UFC but Dulgarian should pass the test by battering del Valle before his own gas tank can run dry.

Bet: Dulgarian Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $2.15

          Bet Now

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-country-flags-icon.svg?v=20260909a#usa"></use>

Charles Radtke

vs

Daniel Frunza

Welterweight Bout

Radtke Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $2.40

          <use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-country-flags-icon.svg?v=20260909a#romania"></use>

1-2 in his last three, Charles Radtke has maintained his confidence even as results have gone against him. A bonus-winning knockout over Matthew Semelsberger last year helped remind fans what Radtke is capable of but sandwiched losses to Carlos Prates and Mike Malott that uncovered a clear ceiling.

Hailing from the United States and appropriately known as “Chuck Buffalo”, Radtke is a persistent striker with particular power in his left hand. When he’s composed and sticking to a game plan, Radtke can produce solid, technically-sound results that exceed expectations.

He is defensively mediocre and prone to lapses in judgment but Radtke does find offensive flows worth noting. His recent losses may reflect a greater limit for Radtke but he still brings respectable punching power and quick hands to the table of every fight.

The fact that Radtke has been finished in the majority of his losses is a bit misleading. Thunderous punchers and technicians have dotted Radtke’s resume but this weekend represents a clear step down in competition for the American.

0-1 in the UFC and arguably fighting for his job at UFC Fight Night 263, Daniel Frunza is desperate to end the year with a win after being stopped in one round by Rhys McKee. The hectic five minutes they shared accounted for well over a hundred punches a piece and three knockdowns credited to McKee.

Resilient as he was, Romania’s Frunza once again showed the volatile nature of his style. As willing to take a punch as he is to give one, Frunza has had some grueling fights even on regional circuits and that doesn’t stand to change. Win or lose, Frunza lacks the defense to avoid damage and has developed the reaction to swing back doubly when hurt.

Both of these men have, on occasion, shown the ability to dig into their toolboxes and surprise their opponent. Unfortunately, neither does so with any regularity and are apt to play into each other’s worse tendencies this weekend.

Ultimately it appears that Radtke should have the upper hand as the quicker, more mobile fighter. He won’t have an easy time putting Frunza away and that goes just as well for the Romanian, but Radtke has the skills to land an abundance of damage. As a result, I expect them both to output a lot of volume and slowly but surely sink into a Fight of the Night contender.

Bet: Radtke Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $2.40

          Bet Now

<use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-icon.svg?v=20260909a#mma"></use>

All Tips

Garcia v Onama: Garcia Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $1.83
Cortes-Acosta v Delija: Cortes-Acosta Head To Head @ $2.10
Gorimbo v Wells: Wells Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $3.35
Dulgarian v del Valle: Dulgarian Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $2.15
Radtke v Frunza: Radtke Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $2.40
Nascimento v Durden: Nascimento Wins By Submission @ $2.55
Elekana v Christian: Elekana Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $2.00
Cuamba v Lee: Lee Head To Head @ $1.94
Johnson v Dumas: Johnson Wins By KO/TKO or Submission @ $1.44
Dumont v Vieira: Dumont Wins By Decision @ $2.00
Ardelean v Ruiz: Ruiz Wins By Decision @ $5.80
Ko v Rowe: Rowe Head To Head @ $2.60
Alencar v Carnelossi: Alencar Wins By Submission @ $5.40

          Bet Now

After a variable world tour, the UFC Apex will have its lights turned on again for another Fight Night showcase.
