That is exactly what Swiatek has done in the last 6 months. After losing in the semi finals of the French Open, nobody gave her a chance on grass – her least favourite surface. Swiatek proved all the doubters wrong by making a significant adjustment to her game with respect to point construction. We now see her stand closer to the baseline where she takes the ball early and redirects it – regularly doing so down the line which immediately takes her opponents out of position. This tactic prevents her opponents from controlling baseline exchanges and drawing mid court balls which they subsequently dispatch. Claimed the title in Cincinnati without dropping a set which is exactly what Sabalenka did last year prior to lifting the trophy here.

          Bet Now

<use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-icon.svg?v=20260515h#tennis"></use>

VALUE

Victoria Mboko ($21), Jasmine Paolini ($34) & Jessica Bouzas Maneiro ($301)

Victoria Mboko ($21): The teenager has burst onto the scene following an incredible run in the first half of the year. Won 5 ITF level titles in a span of three months (Jan-March) and has continued to gain momentum since. Made the main draw of the French Open and Wimbledon after going through the qualifiers but it is in Montreal where all the pieces fell into place. Beat Kenin, Gauff, Rybakina and Osaka to win the tournament but it is the manner which she did so that has grabbed global headlines. She has an enormous power game and any player that can hit through the names mentioned must be respected. Her game style reminds me of Venus Williams who managed to claim back-to-back titles here (2000/01).

Jasmine Paolini ($34): Is constantly disrespected by the market/betting public despite being one of the most consistent players on the WTA Tour. Has made the 4th Round or better in 5 of the last 7 majors including consecutive finals at the French Open and Wimbledon last year. Admittedly there has been a drop off from that level but she is fresh off a finals appearance in Cincinnati where she provided Swiatek with a very tough contest. She broke the Swiatek serve 4 times in two sets and is one of the premier returners on tour. Very likeable at this price and has previously beat the duo of Sabalenka and Rybakina, who are in her section of the draw, on American hard courts.

Jessica Bouzas Maneiro ($301): The US Open has a history of throwing us a curve ball of two with the likes of Raducanu, Stosur and Pennetta winning their only career majors here and doing so at a huge price. One woman who can cause some upsets in little-known Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. She beat Vondrousova who was the defending champion in the opening round of Wimbledon last year and this year at the French Open knocked over Emma Navarro. Lost to Sabalenka at the Australian Open earlier this year but did manage to break serve three times in that match. Made the 4th Round of Wimbledon and followed that with a run to the quarters in Montreal where she lost to the eventual champion (Mboko). Plays an aggressive style of tennis and possess the power/ball-striking ability to raise some eyebrows. If she faces Gauff in the 2nd Round as predicted, we will be backing her for the upset.

          Bet Now

<use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-icon.svg?v=20260515h#tennis"></use>

FORGETS

Sabalenka/Gauff/Rybakina/Pegula/Osaka/Andreeva/Team USA

Aryna Sabalenka ($4.00): Won Cincinnati without dropping a set last year leading up to her title-winning run here but does not bring the same form with her to the Big Apple this time around. Has not made a final since the French Open (lost to Gauff) with losses to Anisimova, Vondrousova and Rybakina in her last three tournaments. Of more concern is her 2-4 record in her last 6 finals appearances which includes losses to Ostapenko and Andreeva. Tauson and Rybakina who have wins over her this year are in the same quarter with potential 2nd Round opponent Marie Bouzkova getting the better of her in Washington in the lead up to this tournament last season.

Cori Gauff ($10): Provided us with a handy collect when she won the French Open and we have jumped off the Gauff train at the right time. Has lost 4 of her last 8 matches with the quarter of Wang, Mboko, Yastremska and Paolini all getting the better of her. Her mindset/game plan is too defensive at present, and she will run into a clean ball striker that will send her home earlier than most expect.

Jesicca Pegula ($34): Made a run to the final 12 months ago in a stretch that included wins over Kenin, Swiatek, Shnaider and Muchova. Has managed to stay in the top 5 of the rankings as a result of the points earned but a failure to defend them will see her slide out of the top 10 very soon. Has lost 4 of her last 6 matches including defeats at the hands of Cocciaretto (1st Round Wimbledon), Fernandez, Sevastova and Linette.

Elena Rybakina ($13): Withdrew from her 2nd Round match with illness last year and has not made it past the 3rd Round here in her 6 prior appearances. Has made the semi finals in her last three tournaments to tick the form box but cannot be trusted in futures betting. NO.

Mirra Andreeva ($13): Followed back-to-back WTA1000 level wins in Dubai and Indian Wells many thought that Andreeva would have gone on to claim her maiden major. Still only 18, there is a long road ahead of her, but she notably lost as a firm favourite in the quarter finals of both the French Open and Wimbledon (Boisson and Bencic respectively). An ankle issue has limited her tennis since with her only match since The Championships being a loss to Kessler in Montreal.

Naomi Osaka ($21): As a two-time former champion Osaka could be a bit of a wildcard. Made the final in Montreal but is too hit or miss for my liking. Has made it past the 4th Round at the majors just 4 times but managed to go on and win the title on each occasion. Hasn’t been the same player since her last major success (2021 Australian Open) with all 12 or her Grand Slam appearances after that ending in or before the 3rd Round.

Team USA: They have 5 players (Gauff, Pegula, Keys, Navarro and Anisimova) ranked in the top 11 but I do not like the chances of the locals. Have already touched on the first two names on the list but happy to put a line through all five. Anisimova is in the same quarter as Swiatek while Keys has made it beyond the 4th Round here in only 1 of her last 6 appearances. To top things off, Navarro has lost 5 of her last 6 matches on tour.

          Bet Now

<use xlink:href="https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/wp-content/themes/punters/assets/brand-icons/tabnz/svg-sports-icon.svg?v=20260515h#tennis"></use>

BEST BETS

Winner
Best: Iga Swiatek ($3.60)
Value: Mboko ($21), Paolini ($34), Bouzas Maneiro ($301)

Quarter Betting
Quarter 1: Paolini ($11), Tauson ($15)
Quarter 2: Mboko ($5.50)
Quarter 3: Bouzas Maneiro ($29), Kasatkina ($21)
Quarter 4: Swiatek ($1.73)

          Bet Now

Last year’s tournament was a successful one from a betting perspective with best bet Aryna Sabalenka ($3.50) winning the title.
