Any notion that Sinner would take it easy on his countryman (Nardi) in the opening round was laid to rest when the top seed bageled him in the third set. As mentioned leading into that match, Sinner has been relentless in the early rounds at the majors and we should not expect anything different in his upcoming match and the ones that will follow in the first week. Sinner is 2-0 lifetime against Vukic having won their previous two battles 6-2 6-4 and 6-2 6-3. The Aussie has managed to generate a single break of serve across the four sets they have played and it has been almost three years since their last clash. We know what Sinner has gone on to become since and I am expecting a completely lob-sided outcome.<\/p>\n

A stomach scare in the second created some nervous tension in the Djokovic camp but he reeled of 12 of the next 16 games to cover the games handicap with ease. Evans gave the local fans plenty to cheer about in a comfortable win over countryman Jay Clarke but this is a bad matchup for him. Djokovic has feasted on players with single handed backhands throughout his career and despite having plenty of court craft, the Brit does not have the power on serve or from the ground to take the game away from Novak. Unless Djokovic falls ill, the 24-time major champion will be winning in straight sets.<\/p>\n

With several seeds bowing out, Jack Draper has become one of the favourites to progress by default. That said, the 4th seed faces a very tricky opponent in the form of Marin Cilic \u2013 a Grand Slam champion and former finalist here in 2017. Knee surgery forced the Croatian to miss a significant amount of time on tour in recent years but went to Nottingham for a Challenger Tour event last week and won the title. More importantly, he got five matches into his legs and that makes him a big threat here. Cilic will hold his own in this match with both players to hold serve with relative ease. Like the Overs and will be backing Cilic to score an upset win.<\/p>\n

De Minaur never look threatened in his opening round win over Carballes-Baena but could find the going tougher here. Cazaux scored an upset win over Rune at the Australian Open last year and has also come through the qualifiers here. Thundered down 24 aces and won 84% of 1st serve points in his opening round match and they are the sort of numbers that would see him win at least one set against De Minaur. There is a common trait in players that take De Minaur out of his comfort serve which are those who utilise the serve+1 tactic effectively. Cazaux falls into that category and also has the chip return off both wings to help neutralise rallies.<\/p>\n
