Round 14 was one to forget for both teams. The Sharks were embarrassed 40-10 at home by the Warriors while the Dragons were never in the contest in a 56-6 loss against the Dolphins. As a result, the Dragons’ time in the top 8 was brief and an injury to Tuipulotu has forced Shane Flanagan into changes. Sloan returns on the wing with Corey Allen to line up in the centres. The Sharks have injury concerns of their own with Hiroti shifting to the centres to cover KL Iro (pectoral) and Mulitalo returning on the wing.<\/p>\n

Head To Head<\/strong><\/p>\n

A mere 10km separates their respective home grounds in Cronulla and Kogarah but it is the Sharks who have dominated this rivalry in recent years. The Sharks have won the last meetings and have successfully covered the line in the last 4. The home team has won the last four meetings at this ground with the most interesting stat being a 9-0 Under record between them in the last 9 clashes at Sharks Stadium. The Sharks have had success through the middle in recent meetings with Nikora scoring 4 tries across the last 4 meetings and prop Tom Hazelton grabbing a try in 2 of the last 3 clashes. The latter is not lining up this week but keep an eye on AFB who is a serial try scorer.<\/p>\n

Stats That Matter<\/strong><\/p>\n

History does not lie with the Dragons, and they are a better team following a poor result. They have covered the line in 9 of their last 13 games on the back of a loss and have produced outright wins in 4 of their last 7 as an away underdog. There is also a clear trend in Sharks games in this scenario with the Under holding on in 67% of their games after a loss in the last year. The Sharks have lost their last two games by a margin of 26+ points despite opening as firm favourites.<\/p>\n

Prediction<\/strong><\/p>\n

Either the Sharks are underperforming, or they are simply not as good as the market suggests. They were dreadful in the previous bye round despite being at full strength against a short-handed Roosters side and face a similar prospect here. Of the Dragons last 9 losses dating back to last season, only two have been by a margin of more than 10 points. We know that the Sharks will rely on their defence in this spot and prioritise the two points over being adventurous with the ball in attack. Like the Unders and the Dragons with the start.<\/p>\n

When the Sea Eagles went into halftime up 16-0 against the Knights last week it looked as though they would win by 40! That was not the case as they fell apart, allowed the Knights to come back and eventually lost in golden point. They will have the services of Cherry-Evans after he was dropped by Qld Origin selectors and Tom Trbojevic makes a timely return with Hopoate unavailable (concussion). The Titans would like to forget last week\u2019s 44-14 loss against the Broncos but will need to lift as Fa\u2019asuamaleaui and Fotuaika have received an Origin call up.<\/p>\n

Head To Head<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sea Eagles completed the season double over the Titans last year but have been far from dominant in this series with the two sides splitting the last 12 meetings (6-6). The visitors have won 7 of the last 10 as an away favourite with high scoring matches being the theme when they meet at this ground. There have been 40+ total match points in the last 7 clashes at Cbus Super Stadium including 64+ total match points in the last three. Tom Trbojevic could make an instant impact as he has 2+ tries in his last two against the Titans with Khan-Pereira the best option for the home side as he has 5 tries in his last 3 in this matchup.<\/p>\n

Stats That Matter<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inconsistency continues to plague the Sea Eagles who have gone WLWLWL in their last 6 games. As that run suggests, they have been outstanding in this spot having posted a 10-2 record both straight up and at the line in their last 12 games following a loss. In comparison the Titans have covered the line in 31% of games on the back of a defeat in the last year. An 0-4 record (straight up and line) in their last 4 home games highlights their poor recent form and is accompanied by a 2-5 line record in their last 7 as a home underdog. The Over is 6-0 in the Sea Eagles last 6 as an interstate favourite.<\/p>\n

Prediction<\/strong><\/p>\n

If there is a weakness in the Sea Eagles side, it is their pack but the absence of Tino and Fotuaika will prevent the Titans from gaining an edge in that department. The home side have been horrific in this spot while the Sea Eagles are an excellent bet on the back of a loss. The Over is a best bet by a clear margin and am expecting Tom Trbojevic to put on his best performance of the season. Khan-Pereira knows how to find the try line against the Sea Eagles and will feature in a losing effort.<\/p>\n

The Knights were booed off the field at half time against the Sea Eagles last week but pulled off an unlikely come from behind win with Ponga scoring the winning try in golden point. It gives them something to build on, but no Ponga means Sharpe to fullback and Hastings into the halves for the first time this season. The Roosters are fresh off the bye and will be confident despite missing their Origin stars as Sam Walker makes his long-awaited return.<\/p>\n

Head To Head<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wins have been few and far between for the Knights in this matchup. The Roosters have won 13 of the last 15 meetings including each of the last three – all at McDonald Jones Stadium. The Roosters have an 80% win rate as the betting favourite across the last 20 meetings in this series and have covered the line in the last 4 as the road team. The Knights have scored more than 20 points in only 1 of the last 14 meetings which suggests they will struggle to put points on the board.<\/p>\n

Stats That Matter<\/strong><\/p>\n

Upset wins have not been a feature of the Knights mantra in the last year. They have won only 1 of their last 4 as a home underdog and have a 40% win rate in games after a win in the last year. The Under is 8-2 in their last 10 following a win with an average of only 33.5 total match points in their matches played so far this season. No team has been better out of the gates than the Roosters in 2025 as they have scored the opening try in 11 of 12 games this season (91.7%). The Knights are on the opposite end of that list at only 30.8%.<\/p>\n

Prediction<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last time the Roosters were without their Origin stars they put 42 points on a full strength Sharks side. The Knights may have made the great escape last week but don\u2019t be fooled into thinking that it will be the turning point in their season. Hasting will add some direction to their kicking game and last tackle decision-making, but the Roosters have superior talent out wide with Nawaqanitawase, Tupou and Teddy. Dominic Young will be up for it against his former club and will be attacking the edge which the Knights have been most vulnerable down. Fancy him to bag a double!<\/p>\n

The Dolphins showed us how dangerous they can be when it all falls into place with a crushing 56-6 win over the Dragons last week. The trio of Isaako, Farnworth and Tabuai-Fidow all scored doubles but the headline heading into this one is the Cowboys absentee list. Dearden, Nanai, Cotter and Robson are all away on Origin duty while Bateman and Vailea are suspended. Drinkwater will be tasked with leading the side with the duo of Taumalolo and Taulagi the most notable ins.<\/p>\n

Head To Head<\/strong><\/p>\n

They have met just four times but playing on the road has been an advantage in this series. The away team is 4-0 and this is the first time that the Dolphins have been installed as the betting favourite. The points have flowed with 44+ total match points in all four games and an average of 53.25 total match points across those matches. Isaako has scored 8 tries in the series which includes 2 hat-tricks while Laybutt has 3 in the last 2 appearances against the Dolphins. Both teams have scored 20+ points in the two meetings at Qld Country Bank Stadium.<\/p>\n

Stats That Matter<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Cowboys have not won as a home outsider in the last year and have failed to cover the line in their last 3 games leading into this contest. They have a 50% win rate following a loss in the last 12 months but will be aware that the Dolphins have been victorious in only 3 of their last 9 on the back of a win during the same period. An 0-3 record in their last 3 as a road favourite does raise some concern for the visitors, but they could rectify that here. The Over is 5-1 in the Cowboys last 6 games and they have allowed 30ppg in their last 5. With the Dolphins having scored 44+ points in their last two, there could be an avalanche of points in Townsville.<\/p>\n

Prediction<\/strong><\/p>\n

With a handful of players missing including multiple players in key spine positions, the Cowboys look to be in trouble here. One thing that has become evident with the Dolphins is that they can pile on the points when they get any sort of momentum. The speed of Marshall-King around the ruck combined with the outstanding ball playing of Katoa will create acres of space for their wide players to run riot against a weakened Cowboys back line. Really like the Overs and think the Dolphins are great value to post another massive total. You can also pencil in Farnworth to extend his try scoring streak to 8 games.<\/p>\n

Another bumper crowd translated into another big Bulldogs win. The competition leaders were able to run the Eels into the crowd on the back of territorial advantage. The absence of their Origin stars (Crichton, King, Mann and Burton) is being countered by the return of Preston and the injection of Lachlan Galvin into the starting line-up. The Bunnies jumped out to a 12-0 lead against the Raiders but conceded 36 unanswered points. With Latrell Mitchell away on Origin duty and Cody Walker unavailable (calf), this will be a big test for the Bunnies.<\/p>\n

Head To Head<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs have won 6 of the last 8 meetings but their dominance in this series has all but disappeared. In their most recent meeting in Round 7 earlier this season, the Bulldogs maintained a rare clean sheet in a 32-0 victory. One could argue that the Rabbitohs should have lost by 50 as the Bulldogs finished win an additional 879 run metres – the equivalent of about 18 sets of six! The Bulldogs have been successful at the line in the last 3 clashes and have won 7 of the last 10 when installed as the betting favourite. The Bulldogs destroyed them through the middle last time out with four forwards (King, Preston, Tupouniua and Curran) crossing for tries.<\/p>\n

Stats That Matter<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bulldogs have won 72% of games as the favourite in the last year but have been even more impressive on the road. They have won 5 of their last 6 as road favs and have covered the line successfully in 67% of those games. The Under has held on in 10 of the Bulldogs last 14 following a win and is 11-2 in the Rabbitohs last 13 matches. Alex Johnston has returned to form with at least one try in each of his last three games but will be without the Bunnies biggest attacking threats inside him. The Rabbitohs will need to be careful on the edges as Preston has scored a try in his last three appearances with the Bulldogs starting left backrower having scored a try in six consecutive games at Accor Stadium – including Kikau last week.<\/p>\n

Prediction<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bye allowed the Bulldogs to recharge their batteries, and they were back to their best in the win over the Eels. Was expecting the line to be bigger here as I cannot see a way that the Rabbitohs match motors with the Bulldogs in any area of the park. The trio of Tracey, Kiraz and Montoya will provide the yardage coming out of their own end which was a telling factor last week as they all ran for 200+ metres. Outside of Koloamatangi the Rabbitohs don\u2019t have enough punch through the middle which will leave them exposed on the edges. Kikau and Preston are both food try scorer bets.<\/p>\n
