In recent years the Futurity Stakes has twice been run outside of its traditional home at Caulfield when Flemington<\/strong> <\/a>hosted the 1996 event due to reconstruction at Caulfield<\/strong><\/a>, and again in 2003 when conducted at Sandown. It was also conducted at Caulfield during WWII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been a key event on Australia’s racing calendar<\/strong> for over a century and continues to attract the best horses, jockeys and trainers from across the country and New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race has seen many notable winners. Ajax won the race three consecutive times from 1938 to 1940, showcasing his dominance with 36 wins from 46 starts. Manikato also achieved three consecutive victories from 1979 to 1981 and is remembered for his incredible sprinting ability, including five wins in the William Reid Stakes<\/strong><\/a>. Phar Lap, the legendary racehorse, won the Futurity Stakes in 1931, adding to his illustrious career that included a Melbourne Cup<\/strong><\/a> victory. Bernborough claimed the title in 1946, known for his remarkable winning streak of 15 consecutive races. More recent champions include More Joyous (2011), who was a standout mare with multiple Group 1 wins, and Alligator Blood (2023), who secured his fifth Group 1 victory with his Futurity Stakes win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winning the Futurity Stakes is a significant achievement in the racing community, and the event attracts lots of attention from punters both locally and internationally in New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking place at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse in Victoria on the east coast of Australia, the Futurity Stakes is a 1400m event and only the top racehorses prevail with the pressure on!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
