Fixed Odds

A Fixed Odds bet is when your dividend is fixed at the odds when you placed your bet. Fixed Odds bets can be Final Field or Futures (see below).

FINAL FIELD - a fixed odds bet that is placed after Final Acceptances have been taken.  Scratched runners will be refunded and winning bets placed prior to a scratching may be subject to a deduction.

FUTURES - a fixed odds bet that is placed prior to the Final Acceptances being taken.  Futures bets are "All In" which means that there are no refunds for scratchings.

What happens if there is a scratching in a race after I have taken a Final Field Win bet?

If your runner is scratched you will get a full refund.

If another runner is scratched your bet may be subject to a deduction. If the scratched runner was paying under $35 your runner will be subject to a deduction. If the scratched runner was paying $36, or over, then there will be no deduction.

Final Field Win deduction formula:

% deduction =               _________80__________
                                        Odds of scratched runner

If the scratching was made prior to your bet, then there is no deduction to your dividend.

Example: Sam places $10 on Bonecrusher at the Fixed Odds (Final Field Win) price of $10. However later that day Makybe Diva is scratched of the same race. At the time of scratching Makybe Diva was paying $4.00. Bonecrusher wins the race and Sam collects $80 ($100 less 20%). The 20% deduction figure comes from the calculation:

% deduction =               _________80________          = 20%
                                                      $4.00

What happens if there is a scratching in a race after I have taken a Final Field Place bet?

If your runner is scratched you will get a full refund.

Winning bets sold prior to a scratching may be subject to a deduction on their return if the scratched runner was paying less than $35. This deduction is calculated using a standard formula:

Final Field Place deduction formula:

% deduction =  _____________________80_________________________
Return Bearing Placings (RBPs) x Odds of scratched runner

For example, when the Final Field Place book for the TAB Stakes opens there are 14 runners. You take $100 at $1.50 for Jimmy Choux to place, to return $150. Before the race, Vosne Romanee at $4.50 for the place is scratched. As your bet was subject to deductions, if Jimmy Choux wins your payout will be $141.11. The calculation for this looks like.

% deduction =  _______________80_________________    = 5.93%
                         3 (RBPs) x $4.50 (Vosne Romanee's odds)

What is the difference between Fixed Odds (Final Field) and Fixed Odds (Futures)?

A Fixed Odds (Final Field) bet is only available after the field is declared. A Fixed Odds (Futures Win) bet is based on nominations for a future feature race. This bet type is ‘All-In’ and, as such, you do not receive a refund for a scratching or withdrawal.
