On August 1 2014, TAB TV and Trackside were re-launched as TAB Trackside 1, (SKY 62) and TAB Trackside 2, (SKY 63), enabling us to show up to 5,000 races a year that were previously not broadcast, more pre and post-race coverage and a host of magazine style content from across the three codes.
Different colours help you easily distinguish between the two channels: TAB Trackside 1 is blue and TAB Trackside 2 is orange. New Zealand racing will primarily be shown on TAB Trackside 1, though it will be dependent on the New Zealand race calendar and timings of international race meetings.
It's easy to find which channel your race is on - just check your bet ticket, the on-screen graphics or online at tab.co.nz. Detailed scheduling information is available at: tab.co.nz, in TAB stores, and on your SKY programming guide.
Frequently Asked Questions:
I don’t have SKY – how do I watch racing?
TAB account customers who have a PC, iPhone or iPad can watch racing on tab.co.nz’s Watch&Bet Racing.
Why has Trackside moved to SKY?
To enable the format and content of both channels to be enhanced for increased viewer entertainment. We have achieved this by splitting our content across TAB Trackside 1 and TAB Trackside 2, which we could only do by moving to a single platform like SKY. We have less duplication and have introduced new content including: magazine-style features, extended pre and post-race coverage for feature events and additional races.
Why didn’t you move both channels to Freeview?
When we moved to SKY we were able to start differentiating our two channels. The additional revenue received from this has enabled us to invest in our programming and make other changes such as transitioning to High Definition, based on feedback customers have been giving us for many years. If we had remained on Freeview we would not have been able to make these investments.
The Melbourne Cup and a range of New Zealand’s premier racing events will still be freely available on the Prime channel. Free racing is also available via Watch&Bet Racing on tab.co.nz for TAB account customers who have a PC, iPhone or iPad.
What if I don’t want to sign up for SKY?
Trackside is no longer available on Freeview. If you don’t want to sign up for SKY you can still watch Trackside live streaming using Watch&Bet Racing on tab.co.nz, using your PC, iPhone or iPad.
Is TAB teletext available on both channels on SKY?
Yes, both TAB Trackside 1 and TAB Trackside 2 continue to carry teletext on the channels. Teletext is not available on MY SKY. Betting odds are always available on tab.co.nz, via TAB Mobile and in store.
I can’t see all the information on screen, how do I change the aspect ratio setting?
Click here to see SKY guidelines on how to set up. Use 4:3 letterbox setting.
Where do I find information online about the ‘No TV’ races?
On the TAB website, go to the Racing tab and either click on ‘Schedule’ in the menu across the top of the page, or select ‘All ’ and ‘Today’ in the left-hand ‘Next to go’ menu to see all meetings and races for the day.
