Pre-selling

Pre-sale betting offers customers the flexibility of placing a bet on the totalisator a day before the actual race meet. Previously this option was only available for weekend meetings however, following feedback from our customers, it is now available for every New Zealand daytime Thoroughbred and Harness meeting.

That's great news if you think that you might have a problem getting to the TAB the following day, but have a horse or two that you really want to follow. You can now place your bet the day before, or early in the morning of the raceday.  Pre-Selling generally opens at 8.30am.

You need to know:

While pre-sale betting offers the flexibility of using the totalisator, it’s important that customers note the betting rules as they relate to scratchings.  In particular:

1) If you place a bet and your runner is scratched, you will have your bet refunded. Please note that, for bets placed prior to the official scratching time (7.30am), the refund will occur when the race is officially resulted and not when the runner is scratched.

2) For Place betting, depending on the number of runners, scratchings that occur after the bet has been placed may impact on your bet.  In particular:

a. If the runner(s) has been removed after the official scratching time of 7.30am, they are deemed 'Late scratchings' and the number of Place dividends stand.
b. If the runner(s) has been removed prior to the official scratching time of 7.30am the number of Place dividends may change.

Please note that bets placed on the internet cannot be cancelled.  To see a full list of the Betting Rules, please visit here.
