Why take a Points Start?
This bet type gives punters the chance to back an underdog, yet still win if their team is just beaten, or alternatively receive a better dividend on a favourite.
The underdog gains a head start, while a handicap is given to the favourite.
Note: the Points Start bet type includes a half point to eliminate the possibility of a draw.
A Typical Market for a Points Start is:
South Africa +4.5: South Africa needs to either win or lose by 4 points or less.
New Zealand -4.5: New Zealand needs to win by 5 points or more.
OR
Manly Sea Eagles-5.5: Manly needs to win by 6 points or more.
NZ Warriors +5.5: The Warriors need to either win or lose by 5 points or less.
The same rules apply to a Run Line in Baseball.
